Just a bit of an intro.

I bought my first mountain bike in 1990 while in college. Got the second mtb in 1991 (Gary Fisher AL-1) and I still ride it. Just replaced the shifters and brakes last year...I still have the original front tire and tube. I may have the oldest functioning bike tire in the entire state of Texas.

A friend coerced me into buying a road bike a couple of months ago...a 2000 Cannondale R600 off of Craigslist. It has needed a few things, but I've really enjoyed riding it.

Please bear with me if I ask a lot of dumb questions, I'm completely out of touch with the new technology. I'm not even sure I can get replacement parts for both my bikes.

I'm glad to be here and hope to get to know a few folks while I'm here.

Welcome to BF !

I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding parts for your bike...people here have been known to just send parts off to people who need them or will know what direction you should be looking.

As far as oldest functioning bike tyres...I was running a Dunlop Dragon on my old Raleigh that had no psi rating but just a script that said "fill until hard".

Now it hangs on my wall of fame since a few hard brakings peeled off some good swaths of ossified rubber.

Running the same tire and tube for 17 years is impressive... it's probably not all that safe... but impressive.

Hello Hale, don't forget to wander over to the Texas regional subforum and say howdy over there, as well.

Welcome to BF!

"Older newbie" ????
If you were still in college in 1990 you're just a kid. I'm 63 and there are several others here who are older than me. :o
