Hey Gee3, I'll probably join you and Eric on the 70K. I was looking for someone on the list that was doing it but didn't see one. I've been out of town for weeks so I definitely can't handle 100 miles and definitely not those hills right now. Actually this will be my first BF ride.

I pm'd ya... lets meet up and roll out together!

So will everyone be wearing their NorCal BF jerseys?

TTYL,
Gary

I'm in for 70k. Please tell me you're not rolling at 6:30!

The idea is the 70k'ers should roll out later to finish with the earlier starting 100 milers, etc...

I'll be doing the 100k ride. My last organized ride this long was 19 years ago!

Got it. I'd roll at 6:30 if I were doing 100 miles. One of these days.

70k-ers probably should start 8:30-ish.

Hey Gary!

Nope, I'll be waking up around 6:30! HAHAHAH!!

Like you said, I'll be rolling out around 8:30... We'll try to get the BF group together so we can all roll out at the same time.

Hopefully the air gets better for you guys doing the 100-mile route. I've been taking it easy on my rides, so that I don't breath hard...but even then it's still irritating.

Not intentionally, but if you want to be threatened, I can try to think of something.:)

My nom de web is for Mark, not Marco, so clearly from a cycling perspective you have the vastly superior Italian racing spelling of the name, while I am burdened by the plodding, leg-heavy German version.

That's gotta be a NorCal record turnout?
.................................................................

It's cumbersome, but you could wear a surgical mask...might look cool!

I started smoking in Kindergarden and quit in 87....hasn't killed me yet...what's another couple of packs more?

Somehow, I don't think I could suck in enough oxygen through one of them things to manage the steep part of Tunitas Creek..... :D

Bostic
06-26-08, 02:11 PM
So chances are good the route is very similar to the 2006 and 2007 ones I found on Bikely? Dial it up to 400 for OLH and Tunitas.

uspspro
06-26-08, 03:02 PM
last year they climbed up E84 rather than OLH.

But yeah that and Tunitas are the main hills. They do Page Mill up to Altamont I think too.

genejockey
06-26-08, 03:47 PM
This year goes up 84 as well. At 7 - 7:30 on a Saturday, the traffic is not so bad. It's really an easy climb - I just put the Bianchi in low and kept my HR between 145 and 155. I was saving myself for Tunitas.

I think the Page Mill to Altamont section's in there this year too, complete with the "Ron's Helmet-And-Spoke Memorial Curve".

I'm a maybe. Is anyone put off by the smoke in the air? It seriously can't be good for the lungs to be out for 6-7 hours huffing and puffing that air. Am I just being a wuss? Do I need to HTFU:)?

BlastRadius
06-26-08, 04:45 PM
There's still a day and a half for it clear up some more. The wind along the peninsula really helps keep the air moving.

Ty S. and I just signed up for the 100K. This will be the furthest I have ever riden. Weak, I know, but if I finish I will be pretty proud of myself! Is everyone wearing Norcal jerseys like Gee3 had previously asked?

If it's no worse tomorrow than today, I wouldn't worry about the smoke.

The way I look at it, my Dad grew up in Pittsburgh, which was MUCH worse on a daily basis, and he just turned 90. I can survive a day.

Seriously my family grew up in Buffalo, and many of them were involved in the steel business. Most of them are still alive ;)

I'm meeting some friends (doing the 100k though they are talking about switching tot he 70 for air reasons... hope not though!) for the ride but I'll be there so I'll try to say hi if I see you guys!

EDIT: I think i'm just going to do the 100m .... we'll see how good I feel about my decision tomorrow :-) but I did go to pesc. and back last week in the heat so shouldn't be too bad.

Actually, the 100 mile route goes out to the coast, where the air should be better than in Santa Clara County. If the air is bad when you get down from Kings Mountain, you can just head back to San Mateo instead of doing the Los Altos loop (which is not very interesting, anyway).

I think we're going to take the tandem instead tomorrow. Due to us both being sick, and the air.

There's same day reg, right? And the smoke is no worse than any 1972 party, right?
So, Tricia and I will get up at friggin' 4 am and drive down, BF jerseyed up and ready to roll and choke with ya'all. We think.:bike:

Up too late as usual, I get so keyed up before a big event. I just roasted fresh coffee for tomorrow, scrubbed my kitchen clean, tuned up the bike, loaded the bento with gels + protein, got my jersey stuff laid out... now obsessively checking bikeforums for last minute hookups!!
