Northern California - Giro di Peninsula - 6/28/2008

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yea, I know it's a long way till June, but I received an email from the Festa Foundation, and registration is open for the Giro di Peninsula. We had a great BF turnout last year (we even had some SoCal BF'ers come too).
Just wanted to let everyone know (especially those that missed it).
I pulled my daughter in the trailer on the family ride with my buddy! Tiffanie had come up to do the ride and I was going to borrow her trailer. She ended up givng me the trailer! And I'm still very appreciative of her kindness!!
The ride was cool but they gave us the wrong directions. Per the people we ended up following it was the map from the previous year. Other than that it was a nice ride. Maybe this year I can do a longer ride if I can get a babysitter! :)

I plan on doing the Giro. Does anybody still have the ribbon from last year on their bike?

No Giro for me this year. I still have horrible nightmares about the untested saddle I rode on that day. :p
Gary, even after a year you still mention your appreciation... you're so sweet! I hope that you and the kiddos have been enjoying it. :)

There are no choices.
Century only, or live in the BF Norcal hall of shame, along with poor ride organizers ;)

I'm interested but it's only a couple of weeks before my wife's due date..
Don't know how she'd feel if I tell her I'd be right there but I got another 36 miles to go before I can quit 'cuz I don't wanna be in the HOS @ BF...:p
Looks like this year's GDP is different from last year's...or am I thinking of another Giro?

I didn't know this was a charity ride. This is personal to me. I'm going to do this one but just the metric.

HA!
It was the first time I met you, Henry. You asked me (a couple times) if I used to race the Alleycats up in SF.
I'll try to join you guys for 100 mi. Hopefully my crazy work schedule will allow me to do this ride.
Hmm, seems like there's a lot of peer pressure surrounding this one. I guess I'll have to keep my calendar clear for that day. :p

Are we going to have a huge Vegas contingent like last year?
that's tough life ;)
I was wrong, I'll be in Vegas til the 22nd. But my gf rolled her eyes at me because the 28-29 weekend is her bday weekend, hence the reason why I got the vegas dates wrong. Can't a guy at least get 1 day out of the weekend to ride, we're not even married yet.
hmm...maybe time to get a new gf...

Ya gotta get your priorities straightened out ... lol Too bad. This is a great ride. I assume she doesn't ride?

Get her on a bike!
Get her on a bike!Or at least put her on a cart and pull her!
Get her on a bike!
you know, I did just that. I fixed up her brothers old mountain bike. single crank in the front, 7 speed rear. some slicks. Gonna go find her a new seat.
the frame is too big for her though, I should probably see if I can pick up a smaller bike/frame. I shorter stem will change the handling and she's already very twitchy.

This sounds fun. Is it typically a big crowd like Tour de Peninsula?
BlastRadius
04-25-08, 11:27 AM
I think Giro di Peninsula is usually bigger (more riders and longer distances) than the Tour de Peninsula.
Tour de Peninsula is smaller, but more congested. There is only 1 route and the mass start looks like a cat 5. Fun though.
I wish Giro would publish routes :( Haven't decided on this one yet.

If it's anything like previous years, it's basically Bay Meadows > Crystal Springs > Canada > Whiskey Hill > Sand Hill > Alameda > Alpine > Portola Valley > Old La Honda > Skyline > 84 > Stage > Highway1 > Tunitas Creek > Kings Mtn > Portola Valley > Alpine > Arastradero > Page Mill > Altamont > Moody > El Monte > FootHill Expy > Loop through Stanford > Sand Hill > Whiskey Hill > Canada > .... back.
I think last year the last bit avoided Sand Hill westbound though.

No kidding. Some freeways are safer than surface streets during rush hour because traffic is not moving.
I cringe when I think about all the gasoline wasted by idling cars.

I've ridden on the freeway in Singapore (by mistake), and started to get on the 101 on-ramp from SFO by mistake (and it would have been in the wrong direction too). Oops! :p

I rode on 280N around Milbrae/Burlingame, where it's allowed, but I didn't get off where I was supposed to. A cop came up and asked me what the hell I was doing. ;)
Two hills I would want to descend would be 101 coming out of the tunnel down to Sausalito and 280 down the hill from the rest area to 92. Well, might as well add in HW 5 down to the Grapevine or the other direction.
You can ride on 101 from Novato to Petaluma, if you don't flat after the first mile.

On Solvang Double, there are a few stretches where you have to go on 101. Once you do it the first time, it's not that bad.
Yep I'm in, I loved this ride.
This is also the day the Gee was looking to get that class going. Is that a no go now?? If thats the case, then I'll be in on this for sure.
