Hi,

I live in Montreal Canada and intend to commute to work by bike. What kind of bike will be easier to ride and not have a sore back. I have 30 kms to do round trip (20 miles). Looking for a light bike .

Need more details, as East Hill implies, but a recumbent or 'crank forward' may be what you need.

It depends on the back.

I have a nerve impingement at my L5 and I get a lot of pain relief if I can ride in a forward leaning position where my arms can support my weight whereas sitting upright is quite uncomfortable / painful.

Regardless of position, higher volume tyres run at a slightly lower pressure will make for a softer ride and does not have to cut into ones speeds that much.

If there is nothing wrong with your back then a hybrid would serve you well and many people prefer road / touring bikes for their commute.

plannig to buy an electric kit the bion x kit the top notch the PL350 which costs 1695$ hors taxes as we say in french.
used to bike in France in the south west... have 2 bikes already one speed bike i am not going to use and a bike no more sold a BRC ricochet bike bought 15 years ago . This latter bike I dont find a pic on the net is OK as I can ride it on an upright position. I have never tried recumbent as they are not easily available for a try. just looking for different possibilities before making a decision.
