My youngest son is a junior this year and is spending this semester at the Citrus County School's Acadamy of Environmental Science. The school is located on the Salt River and all of the classes are related to the study of the environment. They go out in boats or canoes almost every day for different classs exercises. On Friday I went there to show one of his teachers the kayak and the canoe that my son and I made. While I was out I took a nice paddle down the Crystal river to the Salt river and then out into the edge of the gulf and paddled around some of the many coastal islands. It was pretty windy on the way out and I got a good work out. When I go out alone I like to paddle hard for the exersise.
This is my kayak

A bule heron looking for some lunch. I was drifting one way and he was wading the other, so a hurried shot.

About 5 miles in the distance it the Crystal River Energy Complex. One of the largest power generation stations in the country. Over 3,000 megawatts.

Great pics, they help tell the story.

I am really enjoying the ride reports with pics. They take me on a virtual journey around different parts of the country. I hope this continues.

Excellent workmanship on that kayak. I don't see a pic of the canoe...am I missing something?

No, I did'nt post a picture of the canoe, but I will later tonight. It is actually prettier than the kayak.

Here is a couple of pictures of the canoe. It is a Wee Lassie. I cut the material and my son did most of the work. It started out as six 12' , 1"x6" western cedar boards.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. I think I can actually smell the varnish. If I had the money, tools and skills...well I can dream, can't I?

Somehow I just know the Wee Lassie is as seaworthy as she is beautiful.
