Today was supposes to be a nice day so I thought I would do a 40 mile ride. I've done a couple 25 miles, one 35 mile so figured the next step should be 40 miles.
I headed out & about mile 15 it started to get windy, then at mile 20 I turned around & headed home, I'm glad I only had 5 miles of head wind before turning back.
On the way home I got this wild idea & at mile 28 I was hitting the switchbacks to Carter Lake.
My town elevation is 4,982 & the top of Carter is 5,760 so it was a good climb. The part that sucked is the wind was so bad when I was coming down the "FUN" part I had to pedal on that just to be able to hit 40 MPH. Oh well there will be another day & then I hope to hit 50 MPH since it is pretty straight in one section.
Even with the wind & taking the detour I was able to average 15.1 MPH & it took me 3 hours & 18 minutes & instead of going my 40 miles I ended up with 50.1 miles, can't forget the .1 part. :)
All in all it was a good ride, got to visit with some other riders on the way as well.
Just adding more miles until the century ride June 1st. ;) The scary part is I only did half the miles today, I would have to do that all over again.
Oh well, I still have a couple of months to train & get more miles under my belt.

Congratulations on the 50.1. Yes, by all means the 0.1 counts and should not be left out. You pedaled it, you claim it! If you keep increasing the mileage little by little, you will do fine on your century.
Ride on!

No need to increase milage- Find some steeper hills to build up the stamina- or do a 20/30/40 at a higher speed than you normally would. I don't have energy to waste so training has to be effective. 50 miles would get boring as a training ride- and as you say-you have to double that distance. Cut the milage- steepen the hill and wear yourself out quicker.
And How close were you to a Ride your ride? Got those coming up for a lot of us winter birthday people that did not/could not get out when the milestone came.

I have until Aug. but I passed it today since I'm not at 50 just yet. ;) Nice thing is my birthday falls on a weekend this year so I should be fine with that.
Riding in Colorado you have some really pretty scenery so putting on 50 miles isn't all that bad, plus there are a lot of people out riding so you get to meet new people as well.

The fifty is a very good ride, and especially in March. Getting ready for a century has a lot to do with saddle time. You certainly can train by riding tougher hills and faster times, but getting ready for having your butt on a saddle for 100 miles can only be done with saddle time. Good luck, and stay on that saddle.

I went out for an hour today - strong headwind going out, strong headwind coming back. I don't quite know how that works, but it seems to happen almost every time.
Good you got 50 miles in!

DnvrFox, that is why I decided to push it to 50 miles instead of 40 because next week doesn't look good for riding. I guess next week I go to the gym. :D

Congratulations. I'll bet if you can do the 50 then you could now push it a little and do the 100.

Nice going. You'll be ready for that century for sure.

My next goal is doing 55 or 60 miles. Figure do that a couple of times & still get in my shorter rides during the week once the weather gets nicer.
Nice job! Keep adding more miles and 100 won't seem so daunting. At least that's what I've read.... :o

Might as well do a metric century (62.13 miles) and get that one under your belt!

This sounds like a good plan for working up to the 100. Congratulations on your first "half century":)

Yes. Increasing mileage about 10% each week is a good training plan.
