Hi, does anyone know if I can use a wheel built with an 8 speed campy hub with my 9 speed Daytona drivetrain?
Thanks,

The splines are different, so the 9 speed cassette will NOT fit on the hub. I have been having the opposite problem. I want to upgrade my rear wheel to match the Spinergy Xaero-X front i bought in August. I can get a Campy compatible freehub, but it is only 9/10 speed compatible due to a change in the spline pattern. I am going to go with a Shimano compatible hub, Shaimano cassette and a Wheels Mfg. spacer kit to make the Shimano cassette work with my 8 speed Mirage drivetrain.

sorry, my original post wasn't clear. To give the full story -- I've a chance to buy to complete wheelsets (one an old Zonda high profile rims) for under $100, but I just discovered they're 8 speed. I know the spline pattern is different, so I can't put on a 9 speed cassette, but is the spacing so different that I can't just chuck a wheel in and use it with a 9 speed derailleur and shifter?
Thanks again,
Christian

Will it work as an 8 speed rig? Probably, although the shifts won't be as precise. You might check with Wheels Mfg. They may make a 9 speed cassette that fits an 8 speed hub. If that is the case, then problem solved.

PS- What other wheelsets are available, and are you willing to share???

Thanks Demon -- It looks like I can get a compatible hub for $90 from Wheels mfg. It might be worth it.
I don't know what he's got in total, but I'll find out and pass along any info.
Thanks again,
Christian
