Went over to Othello this morning for the Sandhill Crane ride, nice ride! It was small this year, I believe there were 20 of us, but if it weren't for the weather this week I'm sure there would have been more.
We rode right at 30 miles and it was very cold at the ride start, really nice mid-ride and windy at the 3/4 mark. Some of the riders did get into some light snow flurries, but nothing like Friday! Saw lots of Cranes today but no burrowing owls this year.
I did learn a few things on the ride...

1) The vents in my shoes work great! Unfortunatley it was 30 degrees and my toes still aren't talking to me. (note to self, booties on my X-mas list)

2) All the momentum you can build up on a downhill won't help you a bit on the uphill.

3) Booker road hill IS do-able after all! (note to wife... I deserve a Polka dot jersey).

4) I need either a new seat, more padding or a big butt.

5) My Trek has a thing for vintage Miyatas (and I can't spell)

6) Homemade soup is awesome after a cold ride (even the broccoli was nummie!)

And finally, you meet the nicest people on small group rides!

Good to hear that you had fun on the ride. I wish I could have gone, but I had forgotten that I already have the upcoming week and a couple of extra days off for going to California.

Did you get photos of anything?

(broccoli soup is great--my mother makes it with bacon and it's wonderful :D ).

I headed out to the festival but forgot the highway to Quincy was closed by the time I drove around east then south through a snow squall all thoughts of riding ceast to exist.
