Cyclocross - Breaking a Frame

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Has anyone broken a cyclocross frame? If so where did the frame actually break?

That's a tricky question, because the answers are "yes" and "any number of locations." Cyclocross frames aren't magic - they're just like any other bike frame and can break for numerous reasons, either because of specific crash damage, a flaw in manufacturing or both. They're normally a bit tougher than your average road bike but not as tough as your average mountain bike. You've got to consider the riding conditions though and really dozens of other factors. This isn't something that you can make a broad generalization about other than "every frame can break."
The only frames I have seen break have been Red lines. All had broken at the bottom bracket. 2 of them had snapped the weld at the seat tube and 3 had broken at the chain stay. I am pretty sure that they have beefed up this area with the last 2 years. And all were lower end models, that had been ridden pretty hard.
Now that said I am not bashing Red Line bikes, I know a good number of people who ride them and love them.
