Touring - Toupe for touring?

Any thoughts on using a Specialized Toupe for a supported cross-country tour? (85 miles per day average)

Most of us are going to suggest a standard helmet instead.

I've only been riding on a saddle I got for 15 dollars at K-mart (yeah, I know, irony).

If you currently own it and doubt whether it will work for you, then try another saddle until you are happy with the ride. If you like your toupe and you have had similar rides and like the feel, then I wouldn't change a thing. Changing saddles before a tour can be a bad idea, especially since you bum needs to get used to the new contour. Good luck with the supported tour.

i haven't the slightest idea what any of you are talking about. I can't believe it would breathe very well. Try a coolmax cycling cap, it'll also keep the sun off of your noggin.

I keep threatening to buy one but haven't yet made the plunge.

I have a Brooks on my touring set up, but I wouldn't hesitate using my Alias saddle on my Specialized for touring either. They had a bunch of people go cross country on a Specialized on Crazyguyonabike.

Can't really speak on the Toupe, but I have put several thousand happy kilometers on a Specialized Alias without any problems

I try always to appear well groomed when on the road to distinguish myself as a "bicycle tourer" rather than "homeless-on-a-bike". I don't think I'd go so far as to wear a toupee, but I'd certainly count a recent squared-off haircut as an important part of looking my very best. Daily shaving (the face) is also necessary, but again I'd stop short of dipilitating my chest, arms, or legs - unless of course I wuz a girl.

I've done six centuries on a Toupe (the saddle, that is) with complete comfort. I can't imagine anything that would make it inappropriate for a tour.

would a lambs wool seat cover qualify as a Specialized toupee? would it be worn on the seat or your head?
