Over the next year I am going to be spending about $7,000 NZD hopefully on gear.

New bike,
Shoes
Pedals
Glasses
HED3 Tri Spoke wheels for time trialling etc
Open Pro rims laced to Ultegra hubs for training ( i heard these are lighter than ksyriums? therefore I would use them for hill climbs as well)
Depending on what came with the bike, maybe some Bontrager of Shimano wheels with low spoke count for time trialling with side winds? The Trek I am looking at comes with Bontrager.

Coments please anyone?

You can't go wrong with Bontrager. I think any of the higher end wheelsets are fine, however. If you're thinking HED, take a look at Corima. They make a four spoke wheel that's excellent as well. I know of one person who had the HED, albeit a 2 yr old model, but now very much prefers the Corimas. He feels the hub and overall feel are "superior" to use his word. I don't know his skill level, so I don't know how accurate his statements are. Again, however, I don't think you'll make a mistake either way.

how much lighter, am i looking a the wrong wheels, supergo has them for 199 a set. Does anyone know the actual weight.

i believe the ksyrium elites are listed as 780gms for the front and 965 gms for the rear. but the reported weights seem to differ with each publication. i think that 860gms for the fronts and 1055 gms for the rears seems to be what i trust. the open pro's are a few grams more in weight (negligable?)

but if you have ever put an open pro on your frame, lifted up the wheel and spun it then did the same for the elite.....there would be no more discussion on which wheelset to get. the weight is proportioned differently.
the elite's don't require rim tape and the way the straight pull spokes are set up --means less rotational drag (less weight near the tire, more at the hub)
