Northern California - Cinderella Backwards -- The Official Thread

Some have been chatting about this event in different threads, so I wanted to get all interested parties together. In response to someone's question in another thread, of course men and women alike are welcome! The men will have to keep their hootin' and hollerin' to a minimum- although friendly encouragement of riders is always known to lift the spirits of a sagging rider! ;)

Who is interested? Does anyone know the route yet? Is there a good non-stalkerish place where we could start and finish? Where is the after party? ;)

You may have missed the previous threads- we would not be doing the Cinderella ride itself, so we wouldn't be affecting their permit. We would be riding roughly the same route, but in the opposite direction. It would be a normal, safe ride on public roads, so it shouldn't raise any issues with respect to the organized ride. You interested?

Doesn't the route change every year? We need a mole on the inside to get us the latest route info for 2008. Any volunteers? Who can pull off the wig look? Come on, I know some of you guys shave your legs already, so this would just be one step further... ;)

Doesn't the route change every year? I don't think so - at least not the metric route. Last year there was a change in that they had to move the start/finish location from Camp Parks in Dublin to the Pleasanton Fairgrounds, but I don't think that caused a significant re-routing since the route went by the Fairgrounds anyhow.

A friend rode out in Pleasanton this past weekend and she mentioned the pink arrow route markers have been freshly (re)painted, so I suppose someone could go do a recon mission if one was so inclined.

I usually SAG for this ride, and I gotta say that there are enough bikes and cars on the route already without adding to it. I know it is a public roadway and you are free to do what you like, but if your group happens to come into a knotted up bunch of registered Cinderella riders going the opposite way (and there will be SEVERAL), you'll make things a lot more difficult than they have to be. Not to mention dangerous - on places such as Highland Road which has a lot of traffic, even on the weekend.

Do what you like, have fun, and be safe. But I think it's a bad idea. The CHP actively patrols this ride for safety and assistance, and are a great help. But they will take note if there are "complications", and that could affect permits for future rides.

Fair enough. I have a 200K ride planned for the next day so I'll be backing out as well - I needs my "active rest" :o

I totally agree. Thanks for the intel on the ride/permit. The last thing I want to do is increase the difficulties for the Cinderella ride, which I think is an awesome idea. Now I need another ride idea...

Even though you're not doing the AidsLifeCycle, you are more than welcome to come with me Saturday on a Training ride from Sports Basement to Woodside and back. It can be a little overly regroupy and teachy but they're a nice group of people. I'm trying to get to know, people that are doing the ride, so I'm having to discipline myself, which I could use. I'm a bit of a free spirit. The ALC has gotten lot's of pressure in the past years from local communities because of people like me on occasion not respecting rules and regulations :( . They are about doing it by the book, so I respect the organization for that. I'm personally trying to become a more upstanding rider but it's hard. I feel bad after Hollywood stopping a redlight then looking over and seeing little kids with their moms and dads...bad example I'm setting. I feel like a real jerk. So I'm trying...:)

Thanks Pete- I may take you up on that (if so, I'll hit you with a PM). I am leaning toward heading north for a ride. I have done a couple of AIDS ride training rides over the years and I always thought they were great. I agree that stopping at every stop sign, etc. can take some adjustment.
