if you had suggested sunday, i would have said yes since we'll be racing in irvine that day. a post-race ride w/grub would have been awesome.

In! Sounds like my first BF ride. I haven't ridden the route in a long time! :D

I'm in. :D

I'm need to do some more hills though. How about adding Park Ave and Nyes Place in Laguna Beach? I need hills to train for the Mullholland Double.

Could do those as an option for the more insane riders. I was actually thinking of dragging out the map for the OC Hills Century (http://www.routeslips.com/show/index/143) I did last year prepping for Mullholland. Don't know if you want to do a century though.

Newport+Vista Ridge repeats? :D

It occurred to me over the weekend that I still haven't been on Newport Coast since December.

maddmike

Newport+Vista Ridge repeats? :D

They aren't steep enough. Mulholland has climbs that are 16~18% (Decker, Balcomb, etc...). That's why I was thinking Park Ave (~18) and Nyes Place (~20%).

We could just hold your bike in place while you tried to pedal.

Anthill? Isn't that on Sunday, 4/6?

He says we're so slow, he will only ride with us when he's tired post-race.

Oh, I get it. I thought he was saying he couldn't ride Saturday because of Anthill. But he's just too lazy to drive up twice.

Tracie says she's interested but hopefully maddmike and others won't turn this into a sufferfest. BTW Mike, is Lilly coming?

Will Lilly be joining as well?

I'm definitely not in the condition to pull off a century right now... especially a hilly one. For those who would like to throw in a couple of 'detours', how about YOU add Park Ave and Nyes Place... I'll wait for ya at the coffee shop across the street. :D

No sufferfest for me... detours and regroups can be arranged. :)

Oh, and I need to end my day with this BF gang by 2:45 at the latest... can't miss the boy's baseball game that day. ;)

I told her about it and she was somewhat interested, but not that Tracie is thinking of coming, she will be much more interested.

maddmike

I'll put myself in charge of the 'detours' ;) I won't make everyone else suffer with me

I didn't... yet. :p

Need to work backwards here... because, you know, I'm all about having enough time for post-ride food & fun.

So, let's start at Los Primos in HB (I'm working on a route).

I'll need to head out by 2:45.
At least an hour for food. 1:45
40-50 miles (4ish hours w/regroup(s), etc.?) 9:45
add a little cushion. 9:15
I think it's safe to say we'll have plenty of time with a roll time of 9:00! :D

What would you say the difficuly level of this ride is? Are we talking about a lot of hills?

DaveSANYYZ
04-02-08, 12:49 PM
I don't think so. I think at most it will be Newport Coast (~10 min hill of 6% grade), unless you count in the optional detours from maddmike. :)

Fairly easy... there's some climbing. Only ~1700 over 40+ miles. Here's the elevation profile from Bikely:

Laguna Cyn, Shady Cyn and Newport Coast are the only climbs.

I'll be pulling the bike+trailer.

I don't think we'd recognize it.

Ha. That was from my trip to Porland about a month ago (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=6186922&postcount=847). When I was assembling the bike, airport security was checking up on me to make sure I wasn't making a bomb.

I know, not the most inconspicuous setup, but you can't beat biking right out of the airport along the Columbia River!

Thanks to everyone for joining me on the ride today. :) Had a couple of runaways, but all was good. :p Great route, great company and yummy food. That's what it's all about, right? :D

Took only a couple of pics and the camera is still in my car... will post again later.

'Til next time!
