Foo - Opening Day

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Regardless of all the stuff going on in Baseball, Opening Day is still great.
Play Ball.

For sure man!
I haven't been this thrilled about the prospects of my cubbies in a few years now. Lots of great stories developing around the league.

I wish your Cubs the best this year, I think my Rangers are already out of the post season. Oh well there is next year :D

Oh goody. 162 new reasons to take a nap. :p
Step 1:
-Locate cubs game and time
Step 2:
-Clear schedule for the above found game
Step 3:
-Make a nice turkey sammich
Step 4:
-Enjoy innings 1,2, possibly 3
Step 5:
-Doze off for innings 4,5,6
Step 6:
-Wake up and lazily enjoy innings 7, 8, 9
Step 7:
-Schedule next baseball nap, typically the following day.

Yeah opening day was pretty good, I was rooting for Tony Kanaan, but he was the victim of some bad luck. Scott Dixon winning is OK. I'm just glad the open wheelers are unified, unfortunately the wrong side won but it's time to move on.

Oh hold it, what sport are you talking about?

I didn't realize IRL started so late, guess I'm too much of a stock car fan. I like IRL but don't follow it that closely.
Oh yeah back on topic, Play Ball

Not quite how I meant it. I'm finding that baseball is a leading cause of narcolepsy. I feel immensely bored at the prospect of having to watch part of a game.

We're all behind our baseball team
Go Get 'Em Tigers
World Series bound and pickin' up steam
Go Get 'Em Tigers
There'll be joy in Tigertown
We'll sing you songs
When the Bengals bring the pennant
Home where it belongs
We're all behind our baseball team
Go Get 'Em
Detroit Tigers

That was a travesty of a race. Total disparity between the haves and have nots. I am worried about the future of American open wheel racing.

First race back. I'd give it a couple races.

Don't worry. I knew what you meant.

Having been to both IRL and Nascar races, IRL could do a lot more to for their sport. The racing can be good at times but it could be better if the field was move even.

Agreed, but still, having 4 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race. That was just wrong.
I would like to personally thank the MOD's that have derailed my thread :D Lets go Racin, err I mean Play Ball, which ever.

Yeah, they need to even the field and do more to allow the new teams to test, etc. The thrill of watching two cars inches apart at 200 mph has to be seen to be believed. Also, an IRL race can be viewed in two hours start to finish. Nascar at Martinsville takes three times as long and has no real drama.
Oh, and thank you for letting me derail your thread.
Back to smoking in the dugout and taking steriod talk now.:D

I wonder if restrictor plates would have the same effect for open wheel cars as it does for the stock cars. Seeing a 20 car pack would be awesome, I would probably be on my feet the entire race.
As for Martinsville, I becoming a fan of it more and more each year, yes it is bit long but I think it allows for more drama during the race. I onced tried to watch "24 hours of Le Mans", I found it very difficult.
Open wheel cars do not run well nose to tail. Not sure restrictor plates is the answer. Right now the problem is that halfof the teams have years of notes of how to set their cars up for each track and the other half is playing a guessing game.
Secondly, do to the paucity of spares and chassis right now, the new teams are playing it very conservative. They just want to have a rolling car to load up at the end of the day.
The unification happened way too late for this year to go off smoothly. Next year will hopefully be different.
Go Rangers.

Thanks for bringing this thread back on topic.
I try to leave things like I found them.

Hey hold it, I want credit for starting the 'jack!
Please, let's not make open wheel like NASCAR. Yes, there is the inherent problem that on ovals, just a slight setup advantage adds up very quickly over the course of the race, thus leading NASCAR to tweak rules (and do fake yellows for "debris") for their "competition management." I don't want that to spread. Yes, Indycar racing is a mess this year, but it will regain its health and all will be right again, even if Tony George is in charge.
As for baseball, I don't think I've been to a game since Bo Jackson played for the Royals and visited Oakland. In batting practice he demonstrated his power with a monster home run, and in the game almost threw out a guy at the plate from deep left field. Came up just short but still impressive. I can enjoy a warm afternoon at the game, but don't follow the home teams anymore. I do root for the Japanese guys around the league to do well.

I hate seeing Cub's fans getting down on their team, year after year. Any team can have a bad century;).
Just saw a picture of Joe Torre in his Dodger uniform, man did that catch me off guard. It will take some getting use to.

Yesterday Bush threw the opening ball and everyone was booing him when he was walking to throw. Funny.

Today, Bush declared war on booing.
Dubya got it over the plate, though.

although i am a baseball fan, whenever i hear someone talk about the "rangers" i assume they're talking about that club.

The Tribe doesn't play at the Jake anymore (great name for a ballpark if there ever was one) it is now the Prog---short for Progressive Field---Progressive Insuarance bought the rights. Anyway, I love baseball--I have umped it for 35 years---it is one of the only games where you do not have to be huge and fast to play...I love going to watch the Tribe play---and my favoritest, bestest move of all time is "Major League."
