Bicycle Mechanics - ErgoBrain 10 problems (or questions)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am restarting this thread as a means of indicating the question and the answer, discovered since the recent difficulties. [N.B. I never got to see the response by 'roadbuzz', I think it was.]

Our ErgoBrain 10 computers were having enormous problems remembering sprockets. We have 3x9 Centaur setups, and the builder had so much trouble that he gave us a discount if we agreed to set them up ourselves.

I had just as much trouble, and after several exchanges with Campagnolo, find the problem to be that the mount - the socket at the handlebar - was for 10s, not 9s gearing. We will have the replacement made at our 500 km check next month.

For anyone contemplating one of these computers, even with the hiccup, we think they are great. But make certain that the people installing it use the proper mounting kit. I think I understand the error, because prior to us, our builder had only installed the original ErgoBrains (he sells very few, as you can tell). I believe that he saw the "10s" on the mounting bracket, and thought it to mean "ErgoBrain 10", not "10 speed".

As usual, all's well that ends well.

Cheers...Gary

Thanks for the info, Gary. I'm going to copy and file in my Campy tech folder.

gmason,

Glad you got it all worked out.

My message was just to point you to this site, which might still be of some interest.
http://www.campyonly.com/roadtests/ergobrain_test.html. Summary: even with the right mount, installation can be a pain.

Thanks - that is a pretty good article.

FYI - the mount is integral with the transducer cables (to the ErgoPowers), so all of that must be replaced. That means unwrapping the tape, so is a little worse than hoped for. The sensors and other wiring can stay put.

Cheers...Gary

Hi!

I have a problem in my Ergobrain, the thing is that everything work fine except the hood buttons.
Do you have any idea of what the problem could be?

Check the connection of the hood buttons into the main unit. That was always the problem on ours.

Yep, it must be the connection to the main unit, but i can't locate precisely where the connection is broken. I suspect it the problem is right next to the button because the cogs are correctly displayed in the main unit. Does anyone have a clue on how the button wiring works?
