Hey guys! What's the average bike frame weight?
I know that the number vary greatly between low-end and high-end bikes. What type of range is that?

Thanks!
(also, searing gave me a variety of answers, so I thought I'd ask it specifically here)

Look at the weights given on the surlybikes site. They have from big offroad to single speed.

Weight Weenies (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings/components.php?type=roadframes) has a listing of frames with the manufacturers' claimed weights and the actual weights.

Generally, high tensile 1020 carbon steel ("gaspipe") road bike frames like those on Schwinn electro-forged Varsities and Continentals can weigh nine or ten pounds(!), while steel road bike frames using modern exotic high strength steel alloys from Columbus, Reynolds, True Temper, Tange, Ishiwata, and Dedacciai can weigh in at between three and four pounds. Carbon fiber frames can get down to around two pounds, and titanium and aluminum frames can get down to around three to four pounds. These are frame weights only; no fork.

Steel forks can weigh anywhere from one and a half to four pounds, and carbon fiber forks can weigh as little as a pound.

These are all ROUGH estimates, and the bigger the frame the more it will weigh.

For modern road bikes the range is about 2 – 5 lbs. The two lbs. frames are high end carbon jobs that retail for big $$. The 5 lbs. frames are medium-low end steel frames using straight gauge tubing.

A more customary range for bikes in the $1500 - $2500 range would be 2.5 - 4 lbs.

Forks range from about 0.67 lbs for high end carbon to about 2 lbs for welded steel.
