I am thinking about riding from Knoxville to Montgomery Bell State Park for a professional meeting (if my wife lets me). It just so happens that US 70 goes all the way from a couple of miles from my door right to the park, and it also happens that this is part of the cross-state route proposed by Adventure Cycling (http://www.adventurecycling.org/routesandmapping/Stateroutes.htm).

I am just wondering how feasible it is to ride through Nashville on 70, or if there is a reasonably easily-navigated and direct alternative route.

Maybe around Nashville on the south? Smithville -> Murfreesboro -> TN 96 to Franklin and then find a way to Mongomery Bell? Does anyone have experience with these roads?

Hey Sluggo,

sorry I won't be of much direct help- I'm mostly only familiar with the immediate Nashville area for cycling- if you fail to get any usable responses you might try to contact http://harpethbikeclub.com (http://harpethbikeclub.com/), as they are based in Franklin I'm sure you'd find someone knowledgeable of Hwy96 etc. A search on http://mapmyride.com (http://mapmyride.com/) might also yield something interesting.

I dont ride US 70 often but certianly feasible. Not much room for bikes but traffic is not bad. Check out natchez trace area if you get a chance too
