Foo - Numb finger search was futile....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I normally wouldn't post this in foo, but I am having a problem with numbness in my right ring finger and occasionally in my right little finger. I had a chiropractic adjustment last Thursday hoping it would help..but it is still bothering me. He told me that it is usually C-7 to T-1 that usually causes that sort of numbness...Anyone had any success dealing with such a problem? The usual search function didn't turn up anything that helped me.

It's also a symptom of Carpal nerve compression ;) Carpal Tunnel syndrome can present this way as well as other digit numbness and pain.

Tom's right- you need to see a doc to get this checked out- you need a good differential diagnosis to rule out either neck or carpal tunnel issues. I have cervical spondylosis with osteophytes- a hazard of weightlifting, I'm afraid. I was able to control the pain and numbness with isometric neck exercises- I still lift, though not as heavy as I used to, and I still have occasional discomfort, but it's manageable.
I hope this doesn't offend, but I really should mention this. Do not, under any circumstances, let your chiro manipulate your neck. If you have compression or spondylo, manipulation can make it worse- much, much worse. I don't mean to criticize chiros- even though I'm a member of the "traditional" medical establishment (epidemiologist and ex-athletic trainer in a previous life), I think they have their place, but this is one place where chiros can do more harm than good. See a good orthopod, decline any surgery (you don't want that either!), get X-Rays (not an MRI, unless they do it sitting up, which is pretty hard to find- you need a sitting c-spine film to find the compression between the vertebrae), and ask for a referral to a physical therapist who's experienced in sports medicine. You want this because you're a cyclist, and cycling can really make your condition worse. You need exercises to condition your neck and auxiliary musculature so you can ride into your sunset years.
This is a potentially dangerous, but manageable condition. Good luck and take care.
Is this non-stop numbness?
There are lots of threads on BF about tingling/numbness from riding - I had it too, and changing gloves/riding position etc. helped me immensely.
In any case do not ignore it and if it is like that all the time yes, see Dr immediately. In my case I went to a neurologist to rule out CTS or UTS (I had ring and and pinky numbness, ergo Ulnar, not Carpal.)
Good luck!

seems to be persisting...hasn't gotten better since Thursday of last week..
are you riding? doing other intense or repetitive work with your hands? You should try to ease off as much as possible and give the affected area a break.
