I'd like to extend an invitation to the Bikeforum folks to come and join us for the Central Virginia Bike Festival (http://www.cvbikefestival.com/) in Lynchburg VA on Sunday May 18. We have a a century, metric, 40 & 20 mile options. The century and metric have spectacular scenery from the parkway on the Thunder Ridge climb and descent to the Peaks of Otter. You climb from the lowest point on the parkway in Virginia to the highest point in one continuous climb of around 13 miles. It is long but not very steep and worth the climb for the views. You also have the option of a beautiful 40 miler that rolls around the foothills of the blue ridge without the climb.
I'd love to see a few folks join me and the missus for a ride. Feel free to PM or respond to this thread if you have any questions.

Hi Vaughn. Sounds interesting. I lived in Lynchburg for awhile back in the late 80's. When does the ride start? I'm coming down No.VA. I need to know if I can drive up in the morning or if I need to get a hotel the night before. I remember lots of rolling hills in that area, but I've never ridden it on a bike. Sounds fun!
(Edited: looks like I'm already signed up for the Tour de Chesapeake that weekend. Hope you have a great event.)

Sorry you can't make it, are you sure you don't want a little climbing instead of seaside wind? It starts in Forest at the Intersection of 221/Perrowville and heads through Sedalia to Big Island, up the parkway to the Peaks of Otter and back down 43. It then turns on Jopling road and heads back to Forest. It will be a great ride. Remember us for next year.
I'll be out of town. There's lots of good riding and rides in Va.
