Congratulations Bay Area Cycles/ Schwinn- You have forever lost my business.

I posted my slight dismay a year ago when I bought my brand new Giant TCR 1. To recap- Initially; Your shop fitted me in a Medium/Large frame for my 5'8" body, typically I ride a 54. When I brought the bike back after owning it for a total of a 10 mile ride, you were astonished that I felt like it was too large, and you raised all hell. Bad feeling number 1.

I went back to buy a helmet a few weeks after that. Your salesmen told me the Bell helmet I was buying for 40 bucks was not near as safe as the 180 dollar Giro he was peddling. Do I want to risk my safety... yes.

Yesterday.. I went to get gloves... you didn't have my size- DON'T Worry says the salesmen, we have new ones coming in soon. Yeah, but I lost my pair... I need gloves today. It's ok, here is a pair 1 size too small for you.... This is the way the pros like to wear their gloves.... 1 size too small he says.

Thank you Bay Area Cycles/Schwinn- I will be going down the street to Webster Bicycle in the future. We are already in talks to hook me up with a Six13.

For Sale- 2006 Giant TCR 1 Frame- Size Medium- Make offer.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. They have a very nice selection of bikes...maybe the best in the Houston area. But, I agree....in cycling, your equipment HAS to fit. Gloves, bike, shorts.......everything plays a crucial role in maintaining comfort. The good thing about Houston is that we have a choice when it comes to bike shops.

^ Yes they have a decent selection; I was at the Bay Area cycles in Webster, which does not have a nice selection of some high end bikes, but limited on the number of sizes.

Every year or so they close out a few models and there are deals to be found there, but Soy Finito-

I've never had an issue with the Richey location. CCFish, check your PM.

I have recieved a couple of PM's on this thread, and it seems like most of you have had some really good results and have been satisfied with the service at the Richey location. None of the messages commented on the Webster location, the only location I have been too.

Further, Bay Area Cycles has extended a good faith effort to rectify the situation in some way. I'll be speaking with them today, and will keep everyone updated.

Good to know.
Thanks for the OP.
I just moved to Webster and was curious about the local shops.

Cheers

The Richey location is much better than the Webster location. Both times I have been there, I did not enjoy it. They sold me a rear wheel which tacoed about 2 weeks later. They suggested the wheel in the first place, then claimed I should have never been riding on that wheel...I could not agree more.

On the other hand, if you live in the area, I cannot recommend Webster Cycles highly enough. Russ and George are great to deal with...as well as some of the other guys there. Doug spent an hour helping my wife try on every shoe in the store. And they have an excellent wheel builder. They also have way more bikes than Bay Area has....

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh a little at the above post that claimed Bay Area has a nice selection. They have maybe 15 to 20 bikes at most. Webster has about 50 to 60.

^ Another of many votes for the Ritchey location. Work got a little busy today, and I didn't give them a call as I said I would to see what exactly their "rectification" is.

ButterBean- What wheel did you get-

I bought two bikes from them and they have been very nice and professional everytime I've been in there.
Hope it works out well for you.
