I will be getting paid soon. So my shopping for a new fork is heating up. I am down to two forks. The Manitou Magnum R for 90 bucks from Pricepoint. Or the RockShox Judy C for 90 from Jensonusa.com. Any input about the Judy C? IT seems unusual to me that Jensonusa has had the Judy C for 90 bucks for almost a year, and they haven't run out of them yet. Is the C a piece of crap? There are no reviews at mtbr. The magnum R however, has plenty of good reveiws. So right now I am leaning towards it. I have a lot of other stuff I have to buy in order to make this fork work, so anything more than 100-120 bucks is pretty much out of the question.

HA!! as a matter of fact I am looking at one right now. Do you have one? Is it cool? The orange looks a little corny. But who the hell cares? NOT ME!! If you have one, how do you like it?

I just got mine in, but I can't open it till x-mas because it is a gift. I got it because of the reviews I read on mbtr and because of the adjustability. I can't give any personnal account on how it performs though. I am not positive, but I think the magnum-r doesn't have any dampening which would be a big drawback. Maybe it's just that it's non-adjustable? There is the 00' x-vert in yellow for $139, but I didn't choose that one cause the long travel would make climbing more difficult. I personally like the orange color, my bike is green and white so I will be riding an Irish flag when it is installed.
Yeah the reveiws at MTBR are positive....I think it is the Magnum the isn't adjustable. The Magnum R I think is, I'll have to go check.
How about the x-vert by Manitou? Is it a good fork?

That is a great fork. Of all the forks I have owned the Xverts were my favorite. If manitou made a 6 inch duel crown fork that is what I would be riding instead of the JRT.

YAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I can afford the X-vert!!!!!!! YAAAAAHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!! All the feedback about the Magnum R and Judy C I got was bad, YEAH!! an X-vert!!!
Now you do know that it is longer travel fork. It will slacken your headtube angle. What was the travel on the fork that came on the bike?

Yeah I know, that is why I want a longer travel fork. The fork that came on it had 3 inches of travel. Is this( a long travel fork) totally gonna screw things up? I have kinda planned on it changing th e geometry of my bike to more of a jumper. Will this not happen? Or will something worse happen?
Well if your frame was designed for a 3" fork, adding a 4" fork will slacken the head angle by one degree. You might not even notice a differance. THe longer fork will put more stress on the headtube/toptube/downtube junction. Is your frame steel or alum.?

Steel.....:(

In that case I would not worry about the extra stress. The steel will handle it better than alum would.

Hey Fubar, I was looking around and found a 2000 model xvert for $139.00 at universal cycles. Don't know if you were looking for 2001 model or not.

Aaaaaaaaahhhhh...What a relief!! I was soo worried you would sat I needed an alum bike....YES!!
Hey Dg, thanks for the headsup!!
I liked my 2001 xvert better than my 2000. But the 2000 was nothing to sneeze at. It was problally my 3rd favorite after the Jrt and the 2001 xvert. For $139.00 you cant go wrong.
This is all so great!! You guys are the best!

Me again Fubar. Just got a "Holiday Blowout" flyer in the mail today from Pricepoint. They have the Xvert for $149 now and I think it's a 2001 model. Later, DG

Spic-mick, do you know anything about the Tamer headset reducers?
Yea we have used them at the shop a few times, puting regular susp. forks on Cdales. They do the job they are intended for. If I dont get back to you on some of these questions im sorry. I am working daily in my buddys shop up untill christmas. The shop is in Baton rouge and I live in new orleans sometimes I just stay there for a few days.
No problem Spic-Mick! New Orleans to Baton Rouge!! What is the possiblility of the Headtube reducers ovalizing the headtube? Have you had a problem with this?

the no-holds-barred way to handle down-sizing is to get a King De-volution headset. They adapt 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 w/o spacers. only problem is that they're expensive. I had a frame with reducers in it and they seemed to work fine.
Good Luck
P.S. Spic-mic
manitou does make a 6" fork (X-vert Carbon) and one of my friends is selling one if you're interested.
I think 99 was the last year that manitou made the 6" xvert carbon. I dont like to put used parts on my bike. I am pretty hard on parts.

Yeah I saw the De-volution, but they are, as you said, expensive. I may try to save up for one, but right now I just need my bike together, and if the Tamer's work ok, then thats my ticket for now.

Actually the xvert carbon was made all the way through '01

But it was a 7" fork after 99. That would make my bike handle all wonkey like.
