View Full Version : new project with cheap gear reduction
i finally found something cheap to start my next project, with gear reduction. i can pretty much use
everything but the motor and frame rims. its the chain and gearbox im after and for $190 its a deal
this should be fun. im picking it up in the morning.

its amazing how small these little motors are you could install it on a bike not that i would hehehe:)
anyway as you can see it is geared and it should fit the kollmogan motor no problem with a few custom plates to mount it. im also using the cluch that comes with the motor.

How noisy is that? Say compared to a my1018
we shall see, i just finally got the bell house off the cluch to mount the motor just need to shave a half inch off one end of the aluminum gearbox to install the motor. the table saw should work :). and tap and drill holes for mounting, last thing will be a test of the gearbox. ill post it on youtube when finished.

Now...hmmmm that dirt bike has a gas tank...an exhaust pipe....looks suspiciously like a gas engine...in an electric bike forum? ;)
Gas engines - especially the little ones that I have seen - develop a lot more torque and higher rpm than electric motors. There are also other issues like vibration, heat and exhaust. My point - while it may be physically possible to attach the gas engine to the bike the frame was not designed for these additional stresses. You may want to think that through...but it sure looks fun!
i was just showing how easy it would be to use the gas engine, im using the gearbox with the kollmorgan 24volt motor.

just about to mount the motor to the gearbox to test. and its finshed time to test
scarry it works lol :)

excellent design. You definitely have an engineering talent. Let us know how much more effficient your bike is after you add the gearbox. (ie do you get more distance etc?) this would be a great solution for some of the "hill challenged people" I hate those street screamers bikes, its good to see one dissected for the benefit of an e-bike.

thank god im moving i need more room to work, here is the first motor mount installed so far so good.
the chain will line up with the chainring. the screws holding the mount to the bike are just there to line up the motor finished it will be bolts to the other side of the frame for Strength.
