I have a set of Shimano 105 downtube shifters.

What is required to switch the right downtube shifter from index to friction?

On other shamino downtube shifters there was a metal D that you could twist to change from indexing to friction.

Do you see the small projection on the right hand shifter below? If so, pull the D ring out to 90degrees and twist in the direction indicated on the shifter.

edit: shiFt not the original version DOH!

Awesome, thank you. I had the thought in my head that's what it was for...but with my luck it would have been the ejection seat activator had I not asked.

Thanks again.
