I took a drive out to find the infamous Brynwood after seeing it in the Tour of West Portland video from last year. When I first turned onto the road from Miller I thought, "Is that it?"
Then I turned the first bend and was like "Oh okay."
Then another bend "Holy crap!" I thought the van I was driving would flip over backwards. Yeesh!
That hill would be all my energy for a week. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow... :D
I am grateful for triples.
Edit: Oh, and I'm definitely not doing this ride. I only heard about it a couple months ago for the first time, and this is just too soon for me. Hopefully next year I'll be prepared for such torture if it is possible to prepare oneself for it.

Darn, I won't be able to make it up for this ride. Give it hell Dabbo, you'll kill those hills!
I'd be definitely interested in hearing your reports after the ride!
well that was hard. seriously. hat tip to the organiz-ish-er(s) and the guy at around mile 30 with the gatorade and cookies. i really had a great time chatting and riding with dabbo and so many others.
Damn Brutal is what that ride was, crazy amount of steepness. Spent the first 2/3rds trying to hang with Rock Racing's Doug O, seemed like a really nice guy. He, and the other 3-4 Cat 1/2 guys in the group made it look so easy. Don't think I have ever ave'd 157 bpm for 3+ hrs before. great to see so many people at a ride like this, can't wait for next year.
I was probably one of the last Finishers at about 3:15pm. It was a long, hard, wet cold day!
I think I brought a rubber knife to a gun fight. For some reason, I decided on riding my SS cyclocross bike gear at 39 x 17. I made it up all the climbs except for Brynwood and college, but alot of riders didn't make it up those. The hardest hill for me was on the last climb up to Fairmont, on Chesapeak. To top it off I then had to ride 10 miles home!
The ride sounded like all I had imagined it to be. Thanks for sharing! It's a long way until next year, but I definitely want to do this.
That was fantastic! I think this is a great ride.! Very hard but that is what made it classic!
