Bicycle Mechanics - SRAM Red Cassette loose on Mavic hub

I have the SRAM Red cassette on a Mavic R-Sys wheel. The cassette is tight but rocks side-to -side ever so slightly. I have found that the cassete works loose and starts getting noisy as one can imagine. This last time I torqued the lock ring to 40 Nm as specified, previously I just tightened it with out a torque wrench, hopefully it will stay tight this time. Anyone else experience this?

I am wanting to hear the replies to this also. I have the same problem. Not much play, but some. I read through Park Tools website, and I believe the answer is an extra shim. Edit... here is a post where I read about the shim http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=401763

do you have the mavic spacer on the freehub before the cassette?

Yeah, I have the spacer that came with the wheel inplace, without it I imagine it would be really loose.

Are you sure its not the freehub body? If you have the spacer in place and have the lock ring tight then I have no idea.

I don't know much about SRAM but if your cassette is the same width as a Shimano 10-speed cassette then you probably need 2 spacers, the 2 mm MAVIC spacer and the 1 mm 10-speed spacer needed for 8, 9, 10-speed compatible hubs.

That seems to have done the trick. I assembled it with the addition of the 1 mm spacer and after a 30 mile high intensity ride no loose cassette noise. Lovin' my bike again!
