"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - When Does The 2004 Race Year Start

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Or at least something to read about.

Check out cyclingnews.com - there's stuff to read about even now...

I think we'll be waiting until the Giro starts in May for anything on TV, sadly enough :(

OLN is showing Paris-Tours on 11-8.

Thanks for the heads-up! Hadn't been keeping watch on OLN now that the programming is 90% bull-riding (how much can people watch?) and outdoor outtakes...

that's about a month after it ran, you really are laggin' there.

Tour Down Under is in January, if you like to get dirrty then there's 'cross all winter. Really gets going late Feb/early March with stuff like the Tour of the Med and Het Volk.

The traditional opening of the European season is right around March first with the Het Volk. That opens the day races and the classics season.

If you want some interesting fun cycling, rather than doing the traditional Tour de France riding many like, try going to Belgium and riding things like the Koppenberg, Huy, La Redoute, stuff like that. It will give you a great feel for the day classics and how hard they are.

The UCI website has a complete calendar. I just checked, at the moment, there is only the 2003 calendar (http://www.uci.ch/english/road/calendar/calendar_2003/index.htm).

I thought that the Tour was all there is for bike racing.

I would probably have more interest in the classics if they were actually televised (and I'm not talking about a 30 minute highlight show).

I'm anxious to see the Giro route. Hopefully they have a better website this year. Last year I could find the profile map for each stage, but they wouldn't even show the info on the climb lengths and gradients. And of course I had to pretend that I knew Italian to find the page in the first place :D

Do what I did. Go on eBay and buy the 10-hour '01 or '02 TdF on DVD for about $40. That's some good watching to help tide you over :)

According to my brand new Team CSC 2004 calendar, the first international event of '04 is The Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under (Jan. 20 -25). For those of you fighting the GWOT, you can always rotate out of Iraq and catch the Doha International GP (Jan. 31) or the Tour of Qatar (Feb. 2 - 6).

Racing in Spain / France will start up around the begining of Feb. with the Trofeo Mallorca (Feb. 1).

No telling of any of these bad boys will displace an OLN show about hunting while riding a bull in your RV.
