Not sure if this goes in this catagory but being that it is no longer being made I suppose I've got it right...

I am searching for a Bridgestone XO-1 frameset or complete bike. Anyone have any thoughts on my chances of finding one and what I might expect to pay for it?

Thanks :)

Hi,
more than it's worth. It's become a collector's item. Here is an auction I was following... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3633441394&indexURL=4&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting
It's a nice bike, but that is just too much money.

Expect to pay about $1000, and be really sure it isn't a fake. There are many pseudo-XO-1's out there, some of which sell for full price to suckers who don't know what to look for.

www.cyclesgaansari.com

Gary at Gaansari is thinking about having an X0-1 clone made up to house brand as a mtb. top-shelf lugged cro-mo, exact same angles, a solid mix of components. Shoot him an email if you may be interested.....

$1000 for a real one is sucker enough.

What exactly is the appeal of these things?

I don't know-the allure escapes me, too.

Hi,
I can tell you what the appeal was for me. It was the first bike with a really sweet ride I ever tried. Add to that a reasonable price, and undeniable toughness, and you have a great bike.
I will add a caveat. I hate those idiotic handlebars.

nothing wrong with moustache bars :) I have em on two of my bikes. For certain things, they're great. Not sure about mountainbiking though...

Stumpjumper, my fellow Daytonian...

Did you check out the Gaansari St. Clair yet? Thats like an XO-1, very sweet ride, but very expensive! Gary told me (I visit his shop alot) he wants to do a "berevet" or raddoneur (spelling?) style of frame with lugged steel and XO-1 type dimensions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but an XO-1 is like a road bike with road bike frame geometry but utilizes 26" mtn wheels as a "do-everything" bike which is a much better idea than the mtn bike-based "hybrids" with 700c rims that are never taken off-road anyway. No other bike company ever did this before that I know of.

Also, look at the Rivendell Atlantis; made in Japan by the factory that welds Ritcheys, and designed by Bridgestone's old product planner.

missed your post Smurfy! Heya!

Yeah, I tend to spend alot of time at the shop (I'm Jeremiah by the way, in case we may have met IRL :) ). Gary's thinking about doing an MB-1 clone for his mountainbike I hear. Your right though, he did pattern the Saint Clair after the X0-1.

Me? I like the 851 fillet-brazed Van Cleve. I about wet myself when I first saw one. Smoooooth brazing. Looks like it was cut from a single block of onyx :D
