Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Sigma BC1106 problem

I bought a Sigma BC1106 wireless, and have been unable to pair the transmitter and computer. Spoke magnet is within 1/2", the computer is well within the maximum angle range and distance from the transmitter. I rode 10 miles this morning and it never synched up. This is my first wirless, is there anything I might be missing?

1/2" is too far away. The magnet and sensor need to be ~2mm apart or sometimes closer. Also make sure that the magnet passes the sensor at the correct location on the sensor. Usually, only one end of the sensor will "pick-up" the magnet. RTFM. ;)

Naturally, the magnet must also be aligned up and down properly so it is not above or below the sensor. I have a BC-2006 and the distance between the magnet and sensor is somewhat greater than 2 mm, maybe 4 mm. It is also possible your unit sat in a warehouse and the battery in the sensor is not up to snuff. I found a battery with 2.9 - 3.0 volts is probably too weak. A new 3 volt battery reads about 3.2 volts. Most of my problems with not pairing have been due to a weak battery in the sensor.

That's a typo. Seriously.

With my Sigma there's a green light on the side of the speed transmitter. When you press the button on the transmitter to sync, every time the magnet passes the green light will light up. You can also hear the relay clicking if you listen carefully. That could be one way to rule out the magnet not being close enough as a problem.

I think I may have my transmitter on backwards. I have the side with the test button and light away from the magnet, but Sigma told me the light should be towards the rider. Thanks for the help.

The side with the battery cover is toward the wheel and the magnet. The side with the button and light is away from the bicycle wheel.

Actually 20mm is correct. They have two magnets but the one usually packaged is the stronger one so you can get away with a wider gap. If the magnet that came with it is one piece and has a set screw on the back of it it is the power magnet and you can indeed get away with a 20mm gap.
