Road Cycling - New Bike or Upgrade?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have a Iron horse Triumph that has a steel frame and carbon fiber fork. It has Shimano Sora componets. I was wondering if I should upgrade it to Ultegra or if I would be better off getting a new bike. I have about $1000 to spend. What do you reccomend. If a new bike is a better option whats the best ones for $1000. Thanks in advanced for the help.
After looking at the Google results for your bike, what you propose
can be summed up with reference to the aphorism about silk purses
and sows ears. The Iron Horse Triumph steel is a good value for the
money but putting Ultegra on it would not improve it enough to make
the effort/expense worth while unless you got a 'really good deal'
on the new equipment (ie less than half of retail price) and the
Sora equipment was broken. Bikes in the $1k or so price range
would be a noticeable improvement but again you might want to
save for the next level at $1500-1800 where you can get a quantum
jump over the Iron Horse bike. Steve

Check out Felt and Jamis.
Yea, the frame is rather important, its not worth putting ultegra on it, try spending like 1500 or so and getting a bike with 105 or in that range
