My Fizik saddle bag broke off during my ride today. It is the model that snaps onto the seat. I stopped to readjust my seat, and noticed it was gone.
Fortunately there are still honest people in this world :) After backtracking about 8 miles I found a fellow biker with my bag. He had already unlocked my phone, and tried contacting me. He was able to get hold of my son, and said he would wait 30 minutes for somebody to meet him.
I am so grateful for his honesty! Not only was my blackberry in my bag but also my keys, garage door opener, cash and my address.
I learned a 2 lessons today, do not put anything of value in a Fizik snap in saddle bag, and there still are honest people in the world.

Anything of value goes in the pockets of my jersey...

That must be a huge bag if you can fit all of that in there along with requisite tube, patch kit, tire irons, and various other tools. I carry my valuables in my jersey pockets in a plastic bag (sweaty wallets are no fun).

sweaty wallets are not fun at all.
I think you should be able to downsize the stuff you are bringing. :)
I carry, an ID, some cash, one key (house or car) and phone. I use a ziplock bag in my jersey pockets.
But it is nice to hear about honest bikers :D

Actually it is a very small bag, that is why I liked it. My Blackberry is small version,my house keys are just a couple keys, not the snap on the belt maintenance man version, and I keep my multi-tool in my jersey pocket. If it wasn't for the moisture issue my Blackberry would have been there also.
no motor?

There was cash in there? I'm the guy who found it, but didn't notice any when I was looking for some ID - and I didn't find the ID either. I'm glad we were able to connect when we did, I'd only been waiting about 10 minutes but was starting to cool off and had already heard enough from that other guy I was talking to mention how he was looking forward to meeting up with some friends down the path and "getting a little buzz on".
That was my first real ride of the season, and I was also pleased to notice that all that work I did over the winter paid off. I'm hoping that the rest of the season continues this well.
