i would like to find some socks that are long enough to reach up to the bottom of my knickers....about 2/3 the way up my calf
have plenty of long hiking/fishing socks but they are way to thick...must be thin to fit in my shoes
would like wool and something other than black

These (http://store.yahoo.com/sockco/thormenltrun.html) are padded on the bottom and thin on the instep.
Thorlo makes the best socks.

Better yet, get some tights.
Try the local army/navy surplus store. I've got socks that cover the calf for $6/pr.

Buy some tights. Then you can wear regular length socks.
