Introductions - Getting Into Cycling

Hi,

I'm trying to come up with some cash to buy a road bike. I'm an avid cycler but I never done it as anything more than to get out of the house. I own a 2005 Trek 7500 Multitrack. I'm trying to sell it but I got it as a gift and am not sure the resale vale. I'd say there is about 150 miles on it at most. I'm also looking to get into a road bike. What are some good brands and values for beginner getting into this. My price range is about 1000$. Thanks!

For good brands and values, you should be able to find something for under $1000. Search through this forum, there are some threads that discuss good value bikes. Brands you should consider: Specialized, Scattante, Felt, Giant, Trek, just to name a few. All offer good beginner bikes.

I really like Jamis bikes. Nice steel frames, excellent ride.

You might visit some of your local bikes shops and see if they take bikes on trade. See what they will give you for yours if you are buying a new road bike from them.

You can find some fine bicycles for that amount and less - plus figure it as you "entry" bike too. Go try some bicycles out and ride them. It's a totally natural function at the bike shops. While I did run into some hi-end mtb's this afternoon that came with (or supplied with) clipless pedals - most all are platform and you're able to take the seat and adjust it and - go for it. LBS peeps (local bicycle shops, btw) prefer that you take the bike out for a spin rather than come back with a bike that just isn't doing it for ya.

Do have to warn you though .... this is a terrible, <no love!> terrible <LOVE!> love hate relationship here ... I have a terrible problem of walking into a bicycle shop (and I have to hit most of them in my area to hand out my club's pamphlets) - and it's, just awful.

I blame that last entry into the LBS on my newest mtb purchase :D
