Mountain Biking - IRON HORSE Mountain Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Good Morning,
I am looking to get a mountain bike and I have come across on an IRON HORSE 2007 Mountain Bike. Is this a good bike any recommendations are appreciated.
Thank You!

Please provide more information on budget, what type of riding you are intending on doing, what your local shops carry, etc. This is too vague of a question.

Iron Horse Licenses Specialized's frame design, so you'll probably get a good frame and some chump components with them. That's a good thing if you're just starting out.

i have an iron horse sinisister comp. it has been wonderful first full suspension bike. it came with good components by my standards with XT rear derailer and deore front and shifters. it also has hayes mechanical mx2 disc brakes, fox vanilla rear shock, and rock shox judy front shock. i do most xc riding about 5-8 miles at a time. it has been wonderful for climbing and even takes the 1-2 foot drops whenever i'm feeling crazy. mine is a 17 inch and i am 6 foot 180 lbs.

there is a picture on page 76 of the mtn bike post your rig...
Grandfather say: "There are many horses of iron; not all run like the wind. Some come from white man's store of the Big Box and are rife with disease and bad breeding; others are more noble and will carry a warrior to battle."
More specifics needed to be able to make recommendations.
what model of iron horse is it...
I found the bike listed on a community site and had no other description. I am an intermediate biker although I have not biked in a couple of years but want to get back into it. I am interested in the mountain bike more than a road bike. Any suggestions?
We cant offer any help on the bike you asked about unless we know the model of it.
as for suggestions, look at something like a specialized hardrock, rockhopper, trek 4300/4500 or the 5/6 series depending on budget. theres a lot of other bikes, those just seem to be the common ones asked about in the LBS and stuff
Where can I find this picture I am new to this forum.

I purchased mine used on ebay. The best thing to do is RESEARCH. Learn about everything on the bike and then ask people that have the bike or read reviews (mtbr.com has some great reviews). There are a lot of components on a bike that are crucial; shifters, deraillers, brakes, and shocks. If someone says shimano you can't assume that's good as shimano makes a lot of crappy components but if you research you can learn what the good components are (deore lx) and what the best are (deore xt/XTR). Also with full-suspension bikes it's important to check out the sway of the joints. The rear triangle shouldn't sway left to right but only up and down. Keep asking questions! But yes as mentioned if you had a specific bike description that would be great.

Really? I was always under the impression they had their own suspension design known as the dw-link.
Really? I was always under the impression they had their own suspension design known as the dw-link.Older Iron Horse suspension bikes used the Specialized-patented Horst link like on this SGS:

Interestingly, the shock linkage was supplied to Iron Horse by Evil, or e.thirteen, which was the the offspring of Dave Weagle - - who later developed the DW Link for IH.

Wow. I didn't know that. So does their transition from the horst link to the dw-link mean that they believe that dw-link of the two?
Does the dw-link work well, incidentally? I think the only complaint I've ever heard about the design is its complexity.

I think it boiled down to that IH did not want to pay Specialized any more; and DW, being the inventive guy he is, developed a 'better mousetrap' for them. My own thought is they both work equally well and arrive at much the same quality of ride from very different approaches.

The DW Link is designed around concepts of axle paths coupled with instant centers - - suspension engineering concepts a bit beyond my grasp to thoroughly absorb. There is an excellent 'cliff notes' description of DW's concepts in the just-out May Mountain Bike Action, or a more thorough hashing here:

FWIW, I'm riding an 06 IH Warrior Expert and love it. Lots of "bang for the buck" with IH and they make an excellent product. Mine has:SRAM x7, Avid BB5's, WTB wheels (strong), WTB seat, all very decent stuff for under $500. on a Performance sale.
Check out RS as they have some excellent deals: www.rscycle.com
Good luck.
