So last week I went to visit my regular shop to see about getting my MS150 inspection and a new chain. They wanted me to leave it and said it would be like four days to change a chain. I went home with my bike and did two training rides. Then today I tried to ride and couldn't put any muscle into it without the chain jumping on me.

So I loaded it up, and went to Bike Barn. They said they could change out my chain and sprocket today and they are doing it for less then the other place. :D I think I found myself a new shop.

Is that in Webster?

It's probably the newer one in Katy. I have been a Bike Barn customer for a while (mostly the Copperfield store) and find them to be quite good in the customer service area. I bought my Trek 5900 used on ebay (they knew that) and took it to them to see about the headset problem. They dealt with Trek and it was covered 100% under warranty. I just recently rented a Powertap for a week from them and it ended up being free. The powertap website said it would have been a $50 charge but for some reason they didn't charge me. They may have been working out the system because I think I was the first one to rent it. The employees had been playing around with it for a couple of weeks themselves.

They are always real friendly at the kirby location, though last time I went there it was a mad house, maybe because a sale they were having on bikes. I had no idea that they get that busy. There was like 5-6 people test riding bikes in various parts of the village at the same time and how they keep track of all that is beyond me.

Just had my bike fixed at the one on westheimer while I waited. Bent hanger and had to take the cassatte off twice. Incredible customer service.

OTOH, I will always remember the Bike Barn on Kirby as almost getting me off to a bad start in 1997 by trying to put me on a too-big road bike. Having not ridden since a kid, and interested in getting into road cycling for the first time at age 36, I went there, and the sales guy eyeballed me and tried to sell me a 60 cm bike with no proper fitting or test ride, just me sitting on the bike with one hand on the display rack to stay upright. Thankfully, I elected to sleep on the idea, and then tried Bikesport a short distance away, where I got a proper fitting, and bought a 57 cm bike. (My size range is 57-59-59 cm; 60 cm is just too big, period.)

I am not saying Bike Barn is a bad place; they can/will do a proper fitting. I have bought clothing and accessories there, and their mechanics seem to be really good guys, but Bike Barn is big enough for a newbie to fall through the cracks if he does not encounter the right personnel.

I can vouch for the work at the Westheimer store. I get quick service and very good quality. Their service has improved since I first started doing business there. I believe they are making a concerted effort to make service a high priority. Things like feedback cards sitting right on the service desk counter make a statement. I've written them by email before and always get a reply within 24 hours.

Although I live in Austin, another +1 for Bike Barn service (Westheimer). Only had a broken spoke replaced there but they had it done lickity split and they've always been helpful with advice on gear, etc every time I've dropped in.

I want to echo the sentiment here about Bike Barn. I went in today about a problem with my rear brake caliper. I'd taken it to the shop that I bought the bike from twice, which is closer to my house and gave me a fantastic deal on the bike, but were unable to fix the problem. Both times they thought it had to do with the mounting bolt. I decided this weekend to take it to BB on Westheimer and they diagnosed the problem in about 5 minutes. (It was the spring) I also had a question regarding my position on the bike, as I felt I was leaning too far forward. Geoff took the time to check this, even though I didn't have my gear, and gave me some tips on positioning.
I won't make the same mistake again. From now on, I'm always going to Bike Barn for service. You guys rock!
