I have a public perception question.

I have been toying with the idea of getting either an electric or gas bicycle for a while mostly for fun maybe for rides to the beach or even occasional work commute. Now I think a lot of cagers think electric or gas bikes are cheesy or whatever word you want to substitute. I think this has been holding me back so far because like most people I feel cooler doing something and enjoy it more if I think I look cool doing it. I've been watching a lot of videos and came across this one on youtube

He's got a hummer bike pimped out with a cyclone electric bicycle motor. It struck me, wow, what an awesome idea. I'm searching for the words here but basically I'm saying you roll out on a bicycle with HUMMER across it even if it is going whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr how is someone going to try to look down on you for it? And its kind of wierd because Hummer makes vehicles so in a way its natural that a bike with their name should be motorized.

So I was curious is it just me or do other people kind of see that connection as well (?)

Personally, I think that a Hummer Bicycle is an Oxymoron. Their highest selling vehicle eats gas like a pig, and they turn around and sell terribly shoddy bikes and say, "Well seeee we're making bikes, so we're not bad people destroying the environment with giant ugly trucks."

You'll notice in the FAQs page, I can't find the link now in the bikeforums, that says, "If you see a bike with a car brand on it (Jeep, Hummer, Honda) RUN AWAY!!!!!"

I just wanted to clarify the Hummer bike does not come with the motor. He put that on himself or had the Crystalyte Electric Motor people install it for him. Hummer bikes don't come with motors automatically. Just so people don't think they do.

The Hummer bike was made by Montague. Montague still makes bikes like it, but they're no longer "Hummer" branded. Personally, I have to agree: These car-name branded bikes are pretty much all junk, the Montague can be a decent bike - but its probably the sole exception, and as stated, isn't even related to Hummer - the "Hummer bike" was a promotional thing.

Personally, I think *more* people will look down on you for it. The only crowd you'll be associating with will be the hummer drivers, and nobody really seems to like them!

You want to be "cool" on a bike? Electrify an Electra, an Xtracycle, or maybe a RANS Stratus :D

I think if you want the coolest electric bike around you should look at the optibike. Too expensive for me however if you can afford it, it would be the nicest ride around.

What struck me is how such a goober as the guy on the video can have such a hot girlfriend. Seriously, the only place I saw a Hummer bicycle was at Toys-R-Us.

So if our IT Department Canuck on the video can get a chick like that, then there is your answer about social acceptance of an electrified Hummer.

It looks like you can have a cute girlfriend and get a Hummer too.
