Foo - wireless lan tool - bootable cd

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

ok, ages ago someone recommended a tool for doing investigating wireless lans. I need to do a site survey and this tool would work perfectly...
but
I can't find the message, I can't remember the name, and nothing I search for in foo brings up anything useful. I don't even remember who recommended it. so I am taking a shot in the dark here and hopefully someone will remember the name and/or know of a tool that would work just dandy :)
thanks
Whoppix is a bootable Knoppix distro. There are others out there, but can't think of names right now.
Pretty much anything with netstumbler and nmap should help.

it's a free program that will find they wifi in range and get all the parameters you need to log on; channel, subnet and such. if you look on major geeks or softpedia you can find it and a program called ultimate boot disk, it will make any cd bootable an do all the setup and maintaince of hard drives

NetStumbler?
It's not a boot disk, but it freakin rules.
I've used it a few times when setting up a new network in an already saturated environment.
