I've got my winter bike!

Hi guys,
I just want to say that I got a MTB for the winter (for 30 bucks, pretty good deal), I spent some time today adjusting everything and now I'm ready for the snow! I can't wait for the first snow storm!! It's the first time I'll be regularely riding a MTB. It's really heavy and it's a lot of work to ride (so much more than my touring bike), but I'm really hoping it will do a good job on the snow, and also keep me in shape throughout the winter. It's really cool to ride on the potholes or cross the streetcar rails without feeling like your wrists are going to fall apart. I'll try without studded tires first and see how it goes. Boy I'm so happy!!

Cool, Man. If you haven't ridden in the snow yet, you will love it.

A cheap mountain bike is an excellent choice for winter riding. Keep it clean. Winter weather eats bikes.

I still have to finish my winter beater bicycle. I've been putting it off for months. I think I'm just in denial of summer's end.

i feel like the odd duck...
i ride my Surly 1x1 year round. i put on different tires (this year i'm trying a pair of WTB Moto-Raptors 2.4").
there's more preventive maintance during the winter, but this is winter #2(i clean and lube it often).
Does anybody else ride the same bike year 'round? just wondering.

I do.. I ride my same commuter year round.. But I've been considering getting another set of rims so I can mount studded snow tires on it rather than have to swap tires all the time. Around here, we typically have snow and melting, refreezing, then more snow and melting so the snow tires would not be needed every day... But my bike will be the same... My bike is beat up enough that it is just as good (or bad) as a snow bike would be.

The main reason why I got a winter bike is that in Toronto, you wouldn't believe how much salt is dumped on the roads in the winter. I just don't want my touring bike to end up eaten by the salt. The two previous winters I rode an old road bike, and it did a pretty good job most of the time. Last winter there was about 10 days where I didn't ride becuase of the snow accumulation, I'm hoping I'll be able to ride every day with the MTB!

I've got 2 bikes almost ready to go as my "bad weather" bike, to put studded tires on for snow. One is a mid-80's Norco Bush Pilot, the other a mid 90's Raleigh Ambush. I'm leaning towards using the Raleigh, but it has v-brakes, I don't think it will work with fenders. Does anybody sell fenders to fit v-brake bikes?

Zefal makes one - the 236 - but it looks like it just went out of stock at Nashbar, where I had it in my cart :(
