Last August a small film crew documented the goings-on at our Recumbent Retreat. Next weekend the final product finally appears! (It's been submitted to bike film festivals all over, so if you can't make it to Portland, look around locally!

The Filmed By Bike festival is happening April 11th through 13th at the Clinton Street Theater ( http://www.clintonsttheater.com/ ). This includes the Portland Premiere of Jane Machamer and Nancy Breaux's opus: "Bent". It looks like this'll be showing on Saturday, about 20 minutes into the show. These showings start at 7 and 9PM, so get there and get in early!.

The smidge from the website ( http://www.filmedbybike.org/program2008.html#2 ) reads:
Bent 7:52
Jane Machamer + Nancy Breaux | Portland, Oregon - USA
The recumbent bike is often seen as the quirky cousin of the upright bike and not taken seriously. This glimpse into the 'bent world is heartfelt and eye-opening.

What about the rest of us that can't be there, will they post the film on the web?

I hope so- but if there's a bike-oriented film festival near you, check it out. They've submitted the film to every one they could find.

I think it'll be put on the Web at some point- but I wouldn't swear. I'll ask on Saturday.

Is this the same Bike Porn film festival that has been touring the US?

Nope. That's at http://bikeporntour.blogspot.com/

This festival is http://www.filmedbybike.org/ , which includes "Bike Porn".

And furthermore: the DVD is available for purchase at http://www.filmedbybike.org/buydvd.html .

A note: I just got back from tonight's showing. "BENT" was very well received, and was one of the better films shown. At a guess, the top two films tonight were "BENT" and "Women Tours Cross Country Tour". The Women Tours film was quite affecting since it showed a group of women, ages 45 to 72, all breast cancer survivors, who ride from the Pacific to the Atlantic. All have tales to tell. "BENT" got people talking- some in amazement, mostly positively about recumbents. There was one big "Awww..." accompanying a shot of a couple riders holding hands while riding. (OK, OK... it was me and my wife.)

Remarkably enough, three films in tonight's program featured recumbents: "BENT", "Someone Faster" (Geoff Adams and his Baron), and "Let's Ride Together" (animation- the exchange goes "Your bike looks comfy"... "Yours doesn't"... "Let's ride together!").
