I am getting back into track riding after many eons and need a recommendation for pedals. Do you use road pedals? I am concerned about staying clipped in during hard starts and sprints. I currently use Look CX6 and A3.1 on my road bikes ... will these work for the track?

look keo sprints do me right.
your pedals will be fine. i've seen people running mountain pedals on the track. silly, but it works.
why is it silly? are they pulling out, routinely or at all?
i'm using crank brothers quattros. the mechanism in them is exactly the same as those in eggbeaters (which i use across all my road bikes). never pulled a pedal, feel perfectly stable.
if i was you and your shoes are set up for the looks, use them. otherwise new pedals become an exercise in new cleats, new shoes etc.

Road pedals cranked all the way down should do for most people. I use Keywin CRM's with track adapter.
Thanks all for the feedback ... seems like I will be just fine with Look pedals. Like Brett, I also use eggbeaters but only on my mtn bike but feel the cleat contact area may be too skimpy for track and may lack the tension adjustment. Will let you know how things work out. Any of you ride in Colo Springs?

no dis to those using them. but personally i don't feel confident enough with mtb pedals to use them on the track. granted i haven't used every kind there is.
The most practical thing to do is figure out what kind of track riding your going to be doing? What did you do before? Most sprinters use a road pedal, but some pedals wont cut it. Even if you add straps to them.
Using egg beaters on the track may not sketch you out, but youll soon notice that people give you lots of room!
I will be working on Sprints and Devil take the Hindmost ... I think the latter is called a Miss-and-Out these days. In the old days, I used cages with a strap and a slotted cleat that the rear pedal rail fit into ... it was a really secure system.
As long as the tension of your pedals is set correctly and you have a good pedal stroke the chances of you popping out of the pedal are pretty low. You'd have to be a pretty monster sprinter to do that.
If you feel you're powerful enough, or you notice that your pedal stroke is sloppy while sprinting (you're twisting your feet, etc.) then you may want to look into using straps.
I just switched over to Look Keo Classics from Shimano mtb pedals and the difference is noticeable, just in stability alone. I never pulled out but there was always that worry since they are really easy to pop out of if your stroke is at all sloppy.
