I am looking for a bike that I can use for short to mid distance triathlons and duathlons. I may work my way up to a century ride on the bike also. I am considering a bent or a road bike. I like the idea of the bent due to less wear and tear on your back/neck. Would a bent work for such things as a triathlon or duathlon? Also, could I use the same bike for a century because I really don't want to drop money on two bikes.

If the bent would work, can you please give me some links or model #'s and descriptions of bikes that would work for my described uses?

Thanks for your help!

A bent will work for triathlons/duathlons - IF - they let you use it. Bents are generally not allowed in any of the more serious of these events as they are not legal under the race's sanctioning body. Smaller fun oriented events may waive this rule and let you ride, but if this is your primary reason for buying a bent I'd verify that the races you want to participate in will let you ride a bent.

You can definitely ride the same bent on Tris and centuries. Have a look at this site (http://longdistancebents.blogspot.com/) to see what folks are using for long distance rides. The same bents will work for a tri - you just won't need some of the extra equipment these [lights, fenders, etc...] these guys are using.

You'll want an upright for racing. I don't know of any duathlons or triathlons that allow bents, which is to say the opportunities will be extremely limited, if any.

There are no tris or Dus that allow bents, afaik. I've tried to enter multiple times in multiple events and just had to give up.

Short wheel base bents are being allowed entry into long distance and
endurance riding events that the Ultra Marathon cycling people sanction
and since there are only a few riders that use bents the same names
rise to the top every time. For that matter there aren't that many DF
riders who do 400k and up rides or 12-24 hr rides so the name list is
pretty constant there as well.

Stick to the topic son. These are not the same as bis and tris.
