I finally finished this bad boy up and took it for a spin today. The damn thing is fast and stiff, I love it.
This is the first bike I've ever built and it was a great experience. I doubt I'll ever buy another bike complete. I'm gonna take it to my LBS so they can look it over to make sure everything is ok. I am hearing some noise when I pedal. It's either the crank/bb or my chain isn't perfectly straight. The gear ratio (48/19) seems to be good but I have to test it on a steep hill. And when I'm down in the drops my nuts feel like they're getting smashed so I'm going to lower the nose of the seat a bit. Otherwise I'm lovin' the ride.
Here's some bike porn. Thanks to everyone who's helped me out.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. My battery died right after I took the pic and that's when I realized that I didn't take a driverside pic. I will try tomorrow.

They came with the frame. I wish they were red so you wouldn't see them.

Yeah I'm definitely thinking about that.

Loooking good, nice and clean. I like it!
Does it ride smoothly? (thinking about getting an aluminum frame)
Nice Job! I wish I could make mine work with the White/Red color scheme but I like how the black/red looks.

i'd suggest turning your drops down a little more before angling your seat down any more, it should pull the drops a bit closer to you which wont make you have to stretch as far. the bottom portion of the drops should be parallel to the ground. Also maybe a shorter stem. otherwise she looks good.

sweet. it has a good balance of color, chrome, and logo. nothing is overwhelming which is good.

it looks slippery, so shinny and sleek
Verry nice. It's good to see a bike go from questions about what rims to buy all the way to built. Good job. I'm also glad to hear that you enjoyed building it so much. Those 1.2's look great (except those conti valve caps:D.) Those will be my next rims.

Thanks, I will definitely try rotation the bars more. The reach seems fine to me though.

Thanks man. The 1.2 are beautiful and don't feel that heavy at all. I'm 200lbs so I wanted a sturdier rim and this worked out well for me. Just can't decide if I want to remove the stickers.
Those valve caps need to be replaced. Yellow just doesn't work.

You spent all that f'ing money on the Aerospoke and didn't bother to replace the tacky-assed carbon-wrapped seatpost? LAWL.
The op must be built like donkey kong with that kind of drop. Dude, lower your seat. Also: that frame is lovely. How does it feel on the road? Does it absorb much shock?

Yeah, the Pake is getting a powder coat job and all the stock parts that came on the Capo is on that bike now.

I've only taking one ride on it so far but if feels really really nice. The ride isn't harsh at all.
As far the seat is concerned, thats the height it needs to be for me to have a good extension.

Good point, I didn't even realized that until your post. :D
Nice looking bike. Your back must be more flexible than mine. I would have sized that up a few notches.

Thanks. You mean the frame size? It actually fits me well. When I'm in the drops my back doesn't bother me all. It's just my little boys getting smashed. I think rotating the bars will help.

i like the capo frame. are you running it fixed or ss? i would have def gone with aero levers/hoods since i prefer that position to tops or drops. and take off those tires and put them back on with the labels lined up with the valve stem.
drainyoo
04-05-08, 08:32 PM
I'm running it SS. Personally I like the brakes on the top better, it's more comfortable for me when I'm braking and it looks better. With the tires, I lined up the valve with the pressure info on the tire.

I like. The rear brake cable needs some work though, a little sloppy as it is. The gearing looks pretty reasonable, that's unusual around here.

i think the rear brake looks fine. very nice build -- i esp like the fork and seat tube

great job, my only suggestion is fixing your chain tension, i feel like every bike i see now has its chain way too tight. A little slack in your chain is good. Slack chains are fast chains, as long as it's not slack enough to get thrown you're golden. Regardless, it looks beautiful, have fun!

Thanks man. Funny thing is, after I took these pics I took it for a ride. When I was done I noticed that the chain was sagging just a little bit. Maybe my rear wheel wasn't tight enough?

It's a nice looking build drainyoo! Like another poster though, I don't understand why people would build a road bike with drops but no aero levers. It just doesn't look right. In this case it's especially odd because you've got two brakes, and the bars are set up so that a position on the levers would be great for climbing and sprinting. But that's your choice.

Thanks man. Personally I don't like the way aeros look and I also prefer to brake from the top bar. As for climbing and sprinting, I live in NYC man. I'm not looking to ride the Tour anytime soon. Just wanted a nice little bike to ride around town. Plus, I plan to do some track racing this year, well at least learn how to track race.
Cool man, have fun. I lo-lo-love the 60 cm DA equipped capo that they have as a rental bike at Burnaby velodrome.

So far the ride on this thing is amazing. I absolutely love it. Super light and responsive.
cannondale finally went back to their simple paint schemes and it looks great. nice to see a clean build with nice parts.

i live in nyc and use a road drop with hoods riding through traffic. i don't know why someone would only want brake levers on the tops near the stem, where steering is far more twitchy. sounds like you ride on the top position most. just get the riser bar and aerospoke and get it over with.

Get what over with? I find it much much easier to steer the bike from the top bar. You don't know why someone would want brake levers on the top near the stem? Mountain bikes have brakes near the stem, I don't see what the issue is. It's personally taste I guess. I prefer it this way.

Touche! I totally admit that I wanted a bike that was nice to look at but at the same time was functional. Nothing wrong with that. There are no issues with the bars and levers for me. So no issues here. It rides great and I'm loving it. Also, I already mentioned that I'm planning to ride this on a track as well, another reason why I went with the track bars.

What needs to be done to the rear brake?
I see nothing wrong with the rear brake. Just the cable, the way it hangs a little loose at the top tube, and bows up at the back before the caliper, it just looks sloppy to me on an otherwise very clean bike.
What is the gearing?

48/19 but I think I'm changing the freewheel to 18.
I agree with the rear cable. It drives me made but there really isn't much that I can do. Those ties freaking stink.
