My race, it's owned my life for the last 2 weeks. 6 hours of sleep over the last two days and I've run myself into the ground getting this thing ready, not to mention having put in my best ride ever at the Thursday crits.

...and I still won the TT.

I'm going to bed now.

What TT was this? Sounds like it was part of a stage race. Did you get a leaders jersey?

Congrats.

I definitely wrote this up last night, then this thing crashed...

No TT for me this Tuesday, semi-easy week.

Anyways, here's the report of the weekend, copied and pasted from the blog (I don't feel like writing it again, I'm tired!).

The weekend kicked off on, well, Wednesday really. I was gone from work Wednesday and Thursday trying to keep up with sleep (hah) and get stuff ready. Nevertheless, I got a wopping 3 hours of sleep Thursday night after a rather good Thursday night crit ride from me. Spent most of the night setting up stuff for registration = suck.

Friday = registration. Actual registration went pretty smoothly, but I need to figure out a better way to do pre-reg next year… Our conference didn’t keep a record of people’s season-long bib #’s, and most people forgot theirs. Major thorn in my side, to say the least. Left registration at 10:00, got home at 10:30, and was up until 1:30 doing data entry and creating TT start lists, then finally packing.

Saturday….4:30 AM wake ups for the (serious) loss. Anyways, we got everyone corralled together for the 5:45 carpool, and got out of there at 6:00. Got to course and semi freaked out about lack of volunteers. Finally got that covered after much harassing. Thus, I got to (rushedly) get ready and go race.

Road Race…. Boring (mostly). I wasn’t going to win it, and didn’t really try to. Spent a good chunk of it making sure Whitney and our ladies were well covered. Notable here is Matt’s crash. He flipped over off of a bridge and fell 10-15 feet into a little river-ish thing (dry, of course), onto some rocks. Anyways, apparently the moto official thought it was so bad that he was suggesting they call EMS. From what I heard it looked like he was gonna be dead (ouch). It certainly sounded like it. Somehow, he walked away with nothing worse than a trashed front wheel, a seriously cracked helmet, and some soreness. After that, Whitney and Klemko went off and we just let them go. Easy Sunday-ish ride pace until maybe 4 miles until the finish. I figured I might try attacking, but wasn’t really feeling it. Was 3rd wheel out of the 2nd to last corner, but kinda fell back after that. MSU guy crashed in the corner, further complicating things, so I sat up and didn’t even try for it. Mr. Entertainer, Matt Sauls won it. UT B’s, not so much (other than Kyler). UT A’s and Women did rather well — A’s dominated (at least as far as points are concerned…)

OK, TT time. We got a late start due to some, err, mishaps. Went out and did some warm-up, kinda felt like crap. Threw on the aero gear, headed to the start, then took off. Felt like crap, even pushing a fairly conservative pace. Still, caught my minute man ~8 minutes in. I started 2nd to last, so I was mostly just chasing people. Felt like crap for the first 2 legs of the race, but nevertheless managed to amp it up for 3rd leg a bit. Turned on to the 4th leg and thought my right calf was definitely going to cramp. It didn’t, but it was freaking close. Just kept hoping it wouldn’t, and pushed even harder. Flew through the last corner and took off for the final ’sprint’. I’d never really seen my 2 minute man, and he’s fast, so I kind of assumed he’d won. After some mucho nervous waiting, turns out there’s a good reason I never saw him. I took first with 31:20, he took second 7 seconds back. The kicker is, we pretty much blew away the rest of the field, since the guy in 3rd place was 1:15 back on me. That was kind of an exciting win. 3 hours of sleep each of the previous 2 nights, felt like crap, was run completely ragged from the stupid race and still pulled out the win. YAY!

Uh, after the TT I went and slept for 10 hours. Still tired when I got up, but whatever.
Sunday morning is kind of a blur. Lots of set-up, start list making, and registering. Other than a bit of a late start on the high schoolers, I think it went pretty smoothly. Broke away and got ready for my crit about an hour before the start. Got ready, warmed up and felt pretty good.

Anyways, this was my race, with parents/family/friends/team watching, so you had to know I was going to go for the win today. It didn’t happen, but it was still a good race. I raced really strong and felt pretty good. Went with a couple of moves, but none that stuck. I could’ve bridged it to the break that ended up winning, but I had an MSU guy on my wheel who wouldn’t work with me that I didn’t want to drag up there, so I sat up. Later, one of my teammates ended up dragging and MSU guy up there, so maybe I should’ve done it. I dunno. Anyways, I went for a prime a few laps later (figured I might as well win something). Attacked out of the last corner and won it pretty easily, then sat up. Somehow I snagged another prime at one point (to take 2/3, sweet!), though I have absolutely no recollection of doing so. I generally ignore primes, since I’d rather win than get the prime. I was near the front enough and/or off with 3 different moves, though, so I’m sure it was one of those times. Basically sat in, and kind of got boxed in for setting up the sprint. I had 3rd wheel going into turn 2, but got cut off a few times on the back side of the course. Sooooo, I just went way wide on no one’s wheel and totally gunned it. I got 4th in the field sprint, and came daaaaang close to the 3 that won it, despite going wide full out into the wind. What-evah.

Race promoting plus racing is never a great combo. Get some rest.

ps... I need to get in touch with you sometime about your team's Sweatin' Burnt Orange Bike Tour. That looks like a good team fundraiser and I think one would do well for mine as well.

Hey congrats on both the win and the successful race promotion. Next ask Berry how much 'fun' it is to both race and promote....honestly I don't know how you or he does it!

Great job! On both fronts.

Funny how you go from wanting to saw your bike in half to winning in a short time huh?

Graphs: (disclaimer, they're big, they're hard to interpret if they aren't big...)

First one is from Saturday's win. Power is pretty bad, and I think I could have probably gone a lot faster. Whatever, next time.

Second one is from last night's PR on South MoPac. I think I should be able to bump that power up to 300 or so by the end of the year and get the time down to 17:15 or so (new goal). Last night's power was still fairly low, because I'm still tired from the weekend and I did a mile swim in my swim class before that = yuck.

Grumble grumble. 70W more power and I lose by 30 seconds. The scary thing is that I held 364W to the turnaround, and you still beat me there by a few seconds  (I hit it at 8:24)

Nice work UT

Here's my graph from last night. My legs fell asleep on the way back. I started working it out towards the end.

Yeah, no joke. This season's been completely Black and White. Terrible up until Fayetteville (except maybe Castroville and Pace Bend), then doing great since then.

Good ride, Senor Rockets! I've got the denominator in W/kG and W/Drag :(

Yep, the aero part hurts bad. I should spend some time testing with the mobile wind-tunnel method and different aero bar positions. I've actually about got a design together to make some sweet really low clip-on bars out of wood. You know, if I'm going ugly anyway... :D

Man, it's even worse if I add the ~3% difference between SRM and PTap from drivetrain losses.

WR: At least I can feel good about going 15ish seconds faster over an 8 mile TT than you, while weighing ~10-15lbs more and making 20 fewer watts...obviously the course is different, but still I BEAT YOU! IN HYPOTHETICAL TT LAND! NEENER NEENER NEENER.

Or something ;)
