There is no reason for Armstrong to ride the Giro. His support riders are heavily Spanish. They ride the Vuelta. Few teams have enough riders to ride all three GC's. Postal won two GC's last season (first time in, what, 20 years this occurred?). Heras will try to defend the Vuelta.

Simoni knows he's going to have to ride the Giro and will not be able to win the Tour. So he starts, again, with the talk....

Great rider....just shut up and ride. After his smack last season, you'd think he'd learn his lesson.

Yeah, he's a great rider. But I figured he would have shut up by now, especially after reading a few writings he made during the TDF, talking about how he made a stupid mistake in underestimating the race.
Last year he tried for both, and, we saw how 'great' of a rider he really is. I wish Simoni would stop talking trash and actually race smart, and properly prepare to race the TDF. It would be great to see him in great form, racing for the GC, in the TDF. But I guess he will just go for the Giro, as he knows he can have success there, and has pressure to race there.

Um, Pantani won the Giro and Tour back in '98, so no, not 20 years.

Considering Pantani was on Mercatone Uno for both of those victories, his two wins count as two wins for one team.

One team with two capatins winning two Grand Tours is what is meant. Pantani is one man. While remarkable yes, but not as remarkable as having a team with enough depth/support to win two tours behind different leaders.

Though it may be rarer that one team has two different GT winners in one year than one rider winning two GTs in one year, I still would say that the latter is more remarkable. By the way, has anyone won two GTs in one year riding for different teams? Now that would be remarkable indeed :).

On Simoni: He is a great rider, but he could improve his diplomatic skill. Though, sometimes I wonder how much translations changes the "feel" of the original statement.
