Every hour of every day, another American is diagnosed with MS -- we need to take action now to help the growing number of people affected by this disease. I will be riding in Bike MS: City to Shore 2008 to help the 11,000 local people living with this devastating disease.
Today, there is no cure for MS, but we're fighting to change that. This is why I am writing to you: I need your help and support.
This year, I've set a personal goal of raising $2500.00 and I'm asking you to make a contribution. Simply, click on the link below to visit my personal page to make your donation.
You will be pleased to know that the National MS Society is the leading provider of programs for people with MS and their families. The Society also invests more money into MS research than any national voluntary health organization in the world. This is why I'm asking for your support.
Each one of us can help create a World Free of MS. Volunteer. Advocate. Educate. Donate. Participate. Join the Movement.
Warmest Regards,
James (JT) Taylor

The wife and I saw a lady in the Team in Training program raising $$$ for her event. She set her bike up on a wind trainer in front of a major local grocery store with a little plastic bucket at her side. She checked with the store first. I dropped a pocket of change in her pail going in . Going out she was spinning away in full kit so I added a $1.00 and the wife added a $5.00. Try it.
I'll be there as well again this year doing the 100/75 routes... riding with team Copaxone (team captain is uncadan, a fellow BF'er). Enjoyable ride, although it's sooooooooooooo flat.

JT, me, neilfein, bautieri, and Little Darwin have formed Team Clydesdale, bringing some heavyweight bike horsepower to the fight against MS. Help us by donating either to the team or individual members at the link below:

I will be there too, nice to know which forum members live near me. I am in the cherry hill area. Last year this was my first ride and lead to me getting a road bike, very fond memories.

1 week to go... I've again done ZERO preparation for the 100/75. This will be interesting. :)

Same here. The closest I've come is 71 miles in Philly last weekend, and a 384 mile, nine day tour last month. Does back to back metric centuries on gravel pulling 40 pounds of trailer and gear = 175 miles unloaded on pavement?

Absolutely! That's way harder than the MS century and second day ride!
FYI... although Sat looks like definite light rain and high 60's temps, the good news is that the wind is looking to be minimal.. AND... AND... a TAILWIND BOTH DAYS :D woo hoo!!
Attached is the weather for both days in OC... Philadelphia temps/wind/rain is similar.

At least we will have something going for us! That tailwind will be like music to my ears.
Well, that was fun :D
Saturday consisted of a 6hr (total) century (104 miles) and good company with some pacelining here and there to keep things interesting, followed by grahny blowing out a knee.
Sunday, I locked myself out of my hotel room at 7:20am with my water bottles and gels in the fridge. Office didn't open until 8, but someone showed up at 7:45, and I was on the road by 7:55.... that's when things got interesting... Couldn't find uncadan8 out on the road, and it was wet, and everything was soggy (no rain gear, warmers, nothing, on day 2 - smart move grahny), so I ended up paclining 25 miles, hammering 25 miles solo, pacelining the last 25 (something like that) - on a bad knee - in writhing pain the entire way, but somehow I managed to keep a 19.5mph average including stops & lights (grahny does not pause his computer for anything) and finished the 76.something miles in just under 4hrs. Today was a fast day. Grahny is pooped. Grahny is going to take a nap.
Hope everyone else had a good ride and enjoyed the wet weather :D :thumb:

I did the 45 mile Hammonton to Ocean City leg w/ my 7 year old son on his trail-a-bike. His weight (73lbs) the tail abike weight (25lbs) and rain gear, safety gear and a change of clothes for 2 (approx. 10lbs) made for a a fun ride (no rain) and never ending gratitude that southern NJ is flat!

Wow! What a weekend! I rode with Grahny the first day and had a blast burning matches all the way down to OC. LOL! I was very happy with my time - best average ever on a ride that long! I think I had an 18.3 mph average at the end. I'll say this much, Grahny can cook! ...why does that sound so odd?...
Second day was a grind, no doubt. Sorry I missed you, buddy. I musta been hiding in the bushes when you went by.:innocent: I stayed in my comfort zone and average 17 mph on the return leg, but spent a lot of time cruising at 19-20 mph. I even pipped a few of the hammerheads at the finish! hehehe

Congrats, guys! I love seeing the kids out on rides like this. I think it is awesome to get them involved in something that benefits others. Great job!

"Burning matches?" Is that the same as "Boiling a frog?"

Not at all! Boiling a frog is something that you do to someone else. Burning matches is something you do to yourself. However, they both hurt!

If "grahny can cook" ended with "a mean chicken ala king", then it would probably make more sense :D
... and I'm more than happy to help burn matches for hours on end to help people reach new PR's .. even if it means I can't walk for a few days afterward :p

HA! My specialty is lasagna...I think I know what I'll be making this week.
Yes, the pulls were much appreciated. As soon as I drop my spare tire (might have to hold off on that lasagna), I'll be more than happy to return the favor. This winter will be a real grind!
OMG I almost forgot... remember the guy on the bent with the full windshield rocking a powertap? That was awesome... hehehehe :D

That and the four people I saw with their helmets on backwards...I think the trend is catching on. I also saw a guy with his bibs on the outside of his jersey. :twitchy:

Yeah, I am starting to get worried about the state of cycling fashion.
