Northern California - any folks in the foothills of the Sierra????

I went out for a ride today to test a video camera mount..and rode for a couple of miles with a stranger that happened to ride up beside me. Any other riders in the Auburn, Loomis, Newcastle, Penryn area? I'm always looking for some company.

I went to a reception at Whitney Oaks CC yesterday and the whole time out there I was thinking "man! This is a great place to ride."

I know the Sac Wheelmen have a Loomis ride 9am (in about 45 minutes) every Sunday that starts at Loomis Community Park. They're mostly older than I am but it's a great group of folks.

Maybe you should organize an Auburn BF ride. There's some great riding up there. I'd be there. ;)

It was kind of windy, but I thought I heard something about how it was so dorky in the Sacto hipster scene to have tan lines... ;)

I actually rode from Ophir down Taylor Road to Penryn...took a left on Rocksprings...ended up on Auburn/Folsom Rd...took that to Beal's Pt. hit the bike trail..and took that down past the Fish hatchery...ended up with about 63 miles.

Dauphin-

I live near HP in Roseville. I generally have a Sunday ride and we head up to Newcastle through Lincoln and 193/Ridge Road. Our route home varies and on this trip we headed back down on Taylor. The wind was brutal. I have never had to pedal so hard on a downhill.

Last Monday, I did the extended Ride and made my first trip up Indian Hill road and came home via Auburn-Folsom Road. I am getting back into cycling after being away for nearly 15 years. I've been back on the bike since January and I am having a blast.

Wow, you saved the bulk of the climbing for the 2nd half, eh? We do sort of an inverse of that route, starting at the Hatchery, going up Barton to Taylor and over Indian Hill into Auburn. Then back down to Auburn-Folsom by way of Maidu/Shirland Tract/Rattlesnake Rd. Gravity helps out a little bit more on the way home.

It's funny, as I was teaching my Spinning class this morning, one of the guys was talking about his first ride up Indian Hill....and what a challenge it was for him. It's interesting how we evolve and improve over time. The first time I did that one, I felt the same way...now it's not so bad at all.

I'm from the Placerville/Camino area a little south of you (but living in Humboldt now...). Riding is SICK down there. P-vile ---> Pollock Pines makes a nice out & back or loop depending on what route, with unbelievable climbing on back roads with almost no traffic. Starkes' Grade road from Pleasant Valley to Pollock Pines is a beauty.
