I am trying to get my buddy's old Nishiki road bike up and running. We are trying to use as many original parts as possible to keep costs down. This bike is more than 20 years old. The brakes seem like they would work fine but they do not stay centered after the first brake pull. The front drags the right and the rear drags the left. So same brake 'arm' on both. This seems like an issue that seasoned bike mechanics would know about. My thoughts:
-they are not mounted tightly enough to the frame?
-the 'return springs' (my term) are too old?
We cleaned and lubricated them before we put them and and I thought they would work fine. Is this fixable or is he looking at having to buy new/better condition parts?
Thanks in advance.
