Southern California - De Luz Canyon

Only a week to go before the MC, so instead of doing the bagel or Mike V rides, I figured a last climbing ride would be a good idea. I asked Indolent58 along and we did a Bonsall, De Luz, Temecula, Rainbow, Fallbrook, Bonsall loop this morning. There is very little traffic on these roads and we were protected from the winds through a lot of the day. It's a nice ride if you like riding through avocado and citrus groves and horse ranches. I saw two roadrunners and a vulture (circling us) but didn't see theblack swan at the lake.

Nice weather, great company. We'll have to organize a BF ride up here soon.

One of the rougher rides. I know that first grade all to well. Some of the first attempts, i walked it . You think you are getting to the top and there you find another awesome grade. You look happy sometimes, its difficult to look so happy. Great photos. thanks.

Did you try to catch them on your ACME jet-powered unicycle? Or rig up a contraption to drop an anvil on them?

Grumpy is an assassin. Harris Trail Road kick my butt hard. My HR monitor was pleading with my cell phone to call 911, but there was no signal.

It's a great area that I never knew was there. We need to organize a BF sufferfest that includes these roads some time.

Slacking and suffering are two legitimate but separate and distinct expressions of the cycling arts. But they don't mix. It is impossible to experience slack when your HR is 182.

There will be a Slacker Century when it is too hot to ride inland.

I live in Fallbrook, and would like to meet up with some BF peeps for rides in them there hills...

Anytime. Well, maybe not anytime but I ride most Sundays and alternating Fridays.

I live in fallbrook too and I go riding in de luz all the time. It is one of the few places that has hills that that I like to spike my heart rate on. The only problem is the water crossings but if you take the short way through sandi creek there is no water crossings and I know IE bikes has a ride that goes through de luz out by ross lake that they have managed a route with no water crossings and I have it printed out somewhere.

de luz can definitely be brutal. next time make your way up de anza road, 27% (maybe 28?) grade. climbing from temec into de luz up rancho cal is fun when there aren't cars passing you like asshols.

I will post a route for deluz sometime today i know i have the route somewhere at home. I saw that de anza road the other day when i was riding through there i know part of sandia creek gets up to 21 percent grade that that is brutal enough and coming from temec is definately a lot easier.
