Training & Nutrition - What can I expect to pay for a middle of the road cross country ski package?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Again, this season Im on the boarder of purchasing or not purchasing cross country skis. 2 things keep me from buying (at least for the last 3 seasons). 1. Lack on consist snow in Madison, Wisconsin - hard to believe but true. 2. Some people I know do classic, and others skate ski? So, I have to pick what would be best for me, however if I could get my wife into it - I might go classic w/o a problem. Anyways, I like quality toys - w/o the funds to have everything. I have full utegra on my road bike - knowing I would be fine with 105, same with the components on my mtb bike. So I looking for a price range on a set up of skis and boots, polls in the same quality range as shimano 105, if that puts it in better sense for the bikers here. thanks,,
For good stuff, figure about $180 for the skis, $75 for the poles, $50 for the bindings and $100 for the boots. Or, find used for a fraction of that. Its not cheap, but if you got the snow its one great sport.
The classic/skate choice is a tough one. Skating is more athletic and exciting, plus its easier to do on a thin snow cover, but it does require a groomed trail. Classic is more relaxed and versatile.

I have some waxless Karhu 190 cm w/ 3pin bindings and poles I'd sell for $25+ shipping ;)

Also, Nikos, if you aren't already an XC skiier, maybe check out thrift stores. You can find old ski gear pretty cheap as many people buy the stuff, try it once, & give up, heh.
At least that way you could try it for cheap for a season or two then you aren't out much if you don't like it.

I bought some wooden, new, shorter XC skiis at a ski swap in town for $50, and $15 for the poles. I think they're Kahru. Boughts some binding for $55, new boots for $100.
Total of $220. I do wish my skis had more camber? to help with the kick and glide.
