Ok I know other people have had to have had this happen. I wiped out on the bike about a week ago. How long does it usually take this kind of injury to heal.

I did some light riding about 4 days after I did it and that turned out to be a bad idea as it was worse the day after I did that.

Yesterday My 7 month old lab decided he needed to jump off the dock and go for a little unplanned swim. I had to get down on my knees and pull him back up onto the dock. There was no way to do it without putting weight on the right knee. Needless to say it hurt like hell.

So for those of you who have bruised a bone in your knee .. . how long was it before you could start riding again? Riding by the way includes lots of climbing in my world. Anything I should be doing besides icing it?

Never bruised the bone in my knee.
I did one time bruise my foot very badly. The bruise went from the bottom, all the way through the bone, and there was a huge bruise on top too. We wont discuss how that happened. It took over a month to heal.
Hope you feel better soon.

I bruised my knee really badly when i started riding i could barley walk it took months before light pressure wouldn't hurt like hell. I then bruised the other one rock climbing then re-bruised that knee rock climbing then did both my elbows twice...all this since november...so i can tell you it takes a few months and im 23. As far as when i could get riding again... instantly it was just when something touched the bone it hurt like hell.

That's kind of what I was afraid I was going to hear. At the end of this week I will off riding for 2 weeks and of course we are supposed to have 70 degree weather this weekend. Mostly it bothers me because I have a long hilly ride coming up in June. The way it looks I will be lucky if I can get 8 weeks of training in before the ride. Considering I was just getting back to getting some decent saddle time when this happened, this layoff is going to make that ride a lot harder than it would have otherwise been. Oh well it is what it is.

I remember one time rock climbing, or actually training in the gym on this device called a campus board where you basically climb up a wall just using your finger tips and nothing else on small 1 inch thick planks of wood i slipped and landed with one heel on concrete from like 8 feet up, i foolishly climbed on the aching heel for an hour or two and it didn't start hurting till i took pressure off of it, but then i could barley stand it. That took like 6 months to a year before i felt no pain whatsoever so i guess it depends on the circumstances and the force applied to the bone.
