I did the Iceman for the third year in a row but this year I did it on a single speed.

The Iceman is a mtb race from Kalkaska to Traverse City Michigan (27 miles/43km). There was about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground and it never got above 28°F(-2.2°C).

I finished building the bike two days before the race. I was waiting for parts and they came just in time. I never test drove it because my pedals got ripped off on another bike, so I borrowed some from a friend I met at the race. I built up both wheels and I was amazed that they stayed true. This is only my second pair of wheels.

This year was the most fun I had at the race. I pirated the ride because I missed the deadline to register. I don't know my exact time but I rode it just to finish. I rode a 34x16 gear.

There is a separate catagory for single speed riders and those guys are fast, way out of my league. I also saw some cool rides. The one that sticks out is a 29" Slingshot single speed. The guy who rode that took second in the s.s. cat.

The picutres are my bike and what the road looked like getting to the race. What a beautiful day!!!

Very cool. I really miss that part of the world. I grew up in Allendale and went to school in the UP. This time of year it should be snowing not 70! Stupid Texas!
Anyway, looks like a really cool ride, glad you had fun, catch a few snowflakes on your tongue for me.

Stupid Minnesota. There's no snow in the Twin Cities, and your pictures have me wondering where the heck it is.
